Role Overview
To undertake all Engineering activities associated with the project(s) allocated by the Engineering Assurance Manager.
This role can be based out of either Bradford on Avon or Derby.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Engineering Assurance Manager, this role will include but will not be limited to:
Lead and help scope the technical work of data engineers assigned to the project(s)
Leads the Configuration Management for allocated projects and maintain Configuration Items (CI) spreadsheet
Controls and manages all aspects of project source, for example, NRG records, Signalling Scheme Plans, Train Describer Schematics, third party system data, etc
Manages day-to-day task allocation for data engineers in the timely production of work and checking quality at stages throughout the project lifecycle
Ensure delivery of projects is on time and meets the quality and technical standards required of signalling project work
Fulfils the customer facing duties of projects and become the focal contact point for key external stakeholders, undertaking the role of CRE, where deemed competent to do so
Achieving success in the role will be indicated by performance on tasks such as:
Adherence to the HICSE Business Management System
Co-ordinate the production and approval of project documentation via internal review records in accordance with company processes
Frequent liaison with the Project Manager and relevant project stakeholders, to ensure the smooth management of projects including clear communication of technical progress / issues / blockers with suggested resolutions
Identify and seek clarification on technical and project issues from the relevant person
Progress work in accordance with the project plan
Coach and mentor data engineers on engineering assurance best practice and the associated benefits
Check project requirements are understood and correct principles and data are used
Manage and populate the stage gate checklists for stages 5, 6, 7 and 8 on behalf of the project
Enhance working relationships both internal and external to the project team
Ensure compliance of projects to the relevant Network Rail and other standards
To provide review and technical support on commercial tenders
Manages Technical Queries and Request for Information, including maintenance of associated trackers
Attends technical meetings with the customer, as required
Lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for allocated projects
Facilitate strong communication between internal and external project team stakeholders on project tasks and issues
Responsible for ensuring the production of system release notes
Key Skills and Experience
Essential
Significant relevant UK railway industry experience
Track record in managing and leading a team
Demonstrable customer facing experience with excellent written and oral communication skills
Knowledge of the Project/Production lifecycles including the common engineering lifecycles
Good knowledge of using PC tools especially Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Project
Desirable
Able to undertake the Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) role or have strong knowledge of the CRE role
Educated to Degree level in a relevant engineering subject
Understanding of railway signalling design principles, and relevant Network Rail standards
Railway project engineering IRSE Licence
Knowledge of Automatic Route Setting (ARS) systems
Knowledge of any railway control systems e.g., MCS, Westcad, IECC
Knowledge of railway interlocking e.g., SSI, Westlock or Relay (RRI)
Understanding of Safety Integrity Levels (SIL) and the corresponding engineering assurance applicable to each BS50128
