R&D Intern, Smart Manufacturing/ Motion Analysis

Term: For 6 months (Negotiable according to class schedule)

Hours: 9am-6pm (with one-hour lunch break), Monday - Friday

Hitachi America, Ltd. ( is looking for a candidate pursuing their Masters / Ph.D. degree in computer science, computer vision, electrical engineering, industrial engineering or biomechanical engineering related field to join our Research & Development team as an Intern. The intern will be involved in research related to Smart Manufacturing/Industry 4.0. This position will require sound knowledge in image/video analysis, human motion analysis, AI, machining learning etc. The position requires the intern to work as a team member with good communication and written skills. The intern will also periodically communicate with the supervisor to define the scope of the work and to document the research.


  • Pursuing a Masters or PhD in computer science, computer vision, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, biomechanical engineering or related field is required.
  • Knowledge of image/video processing and analysis is required.
  • Deep understanding in both classical and machine learning based computer vision is required.
  • Knowledge of motion capture, pose and gesture estimation, motion analysis is required.
  • Programming skills in C++ and/or Python is required
  • Experience of manufacturing environment and industrial automation is preferred.
  • Good literature survey, technical writing & communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and execute experiments; document, analyze and present results.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate dedication to completing jobs on time.
