Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Production Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Miami, FL.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist production management in daily assembly process related matters.
  • Interface with production personnel to solve daily needs in assembly line monitoring and keeping record of work hours assign to manufacturing jobs.
  • Oversees production staff assigned task performance.
  • Assist management in monitoring the production process and participates in progress reviews.
  • Assures manufacturing inspection plan for manufacturing activity is properly documented and updated.  
  • Review technical documentation such as: layouts, drawings and schedules for car assemblies.
  • Plan, design and coordinate integration of machinery and equipment into manufacturing production processes by applying engineering knowledge to promote safe and efficient utilization of man, machine and materials.
  • Develop and write equipment specifications, performance requirements, cost analysis and proposals for integrating machinery and equipment into manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical wiring, electronics, programming and manufacturing requirements.
  • Coordinates and maintain in control staff training for all manufacturing processes.  
  • Recommend modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
  • Identify opportunities and / or implement changes to resolve production problems, maximize process reliability and to also improve products, efficiency and reduce costs by using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment.
  • Design fixtures, carts and production enhancements.
  • Determine adjustments to processing methods using root causes analysis.
  • Record and analyze process data using mathematical calculations and report on those findings.
  • Interface with other department such as quality, testing, commissioning, purchasing, materials management for prompt and effective resolution of production issues.
  • Interfaces with EHS department to guarantee safe conditions in the workshop.
  • Monitor preventive maintenance plan for facility’s major equipment and lifting devices.  
  • Keep record of preventive/corrective maintenance activities performed on site.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
  • Must have strong personal computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and databases.
  • Ability to apply principles, techniques, procedures and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • CAD and computer programming experience preferred
  • Knowledge of specific methods and techniques to identify the true cause of system or process failures
  • Ability to research and identify specialized resources inside or outside of the organization that will effectively meet the needs of the situation
  • Must be able to communicate clear expectations to the resource, monitor deliverables, evaluate and record results, contact information and other data for future use.
  • Ability to confidently and proactively supervise production teams.
  • Exceptional analytical ability toward solving production-related concerns.
  • Knowledge of procuring materials, equipment, and labor needed throughout the production process.
  • Proficiency in quality control, managing budgets, and production costing.
  • Ability to work independently under the Production Manager, and as part of a production team.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills toward managing human resources and liaising with other departments.
  • Availability to work extended hours to meet deadlines, when necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position works in a warehouse/production environment.  The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

The performance of this position requires exposure to the manufacturing areas.
