General Responsibilities:

Hitachi Astemo Americas, Inc is looking for an experienced Engineer to join our Suspension Team. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for designing, planning, testing, and coordinating multiple processes for new products related to shock-absorber business, considering passive and semi-active technologies. In addition, this position will be coordinate all product development activity between OEM customer and responsible departments within the Hitachi Astemo.

Job Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of this position includes, but is not limited:

  • Create statement of requirements, DFMEA & DVP&R for new components and technologies. Collaborate with teammates and design engineers to develop initial technical design concepts on new automotive suspension component designs, focusing primarily on shock absorbers (30% of the time).
  • Help to develop the design of new products from concept to prototype build and release through automotive project cycles (25% of the time). 
  • Collaborate with internal manufacturing and quality teams to understand product processes and incorporate manufacturing feasibility constraints into designs to meet customer design requirements (30% of the time). 
  • Work along with simulation engineers in order to provide methodology for virtual product validation and verification (10% of the time).
  • Stay abreast with latest technology, innovation and published futuristic concepts in the field of chassis engineering (5% of the time).

Other:

  • Occasional meetings outside of core business hours with other global Hitachi and OEM sites.
  • Manage / lead assigned deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • Foster teamwork through good interpersonal skills
  • Exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Able to share analysis, findings, inferences etc. through excellent communication skills- verbal & non-verbal.
  • Motivated & self-starter with ability to work remotely when required.
  • Prior program management or project planning experience is desired.

Qualifications:

       Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge on CFD, Vehicle Dynamics and Mechanical Structural analysis from the functional standpoint.
  • Experience on virtual simulation, data acquisition and post processing analysis
  • Experience with product development inside OEM or a Tier I is a perk

Additionally, the ability to work independently with minimal direction is required as are strong/effective verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to travel and support activities and coordination at the global level is required.

Education:  Bachelor on mechanical engineering or equivalent. Master degree is preferable

Experience: 5+ years applicable experience in automotive industry, preferable in suspension or shock-absorber related areas.

Working conditions:

Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Have ability to work 40 – 60 hours per week.

Travel: Domestic and international may be required as needed.
