Summary of the position:

Air End Advanced Technology Development – Development of new rotary screw compressors.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Design of single and multi-stage rotary screw air compressors.
  • Optimizing air flow paths using fluid flow simulations on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software.
  • Optimizing structural stability and minimizing weight of screw compressor inlet valve components using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
  • Sizing of rotors, bearings, and gears.  
  • Leading performance validation and durability testing of components. Investigation of unexpected structural failures during testing.
  • Conduction of DFMEA study to examine expected failure modes of the compressor and track improvements by studying the risk priority number.
  • Comparing cost and lead time estimates from manufacturers. Writing purchase orders to procure prototype and production parts.
  • Working with manufacturing engineers and technicians to effectively design fixtures for the production assembly.
  • Performing sound pressure level analysis on screw compressor air ends and components to isolate internal noise issues.
  • Communicate with component suppliers to acquire castings, fasteners etc., required to manufacture prototypes of screw compressors.
  • Releasing design for production after multiple cross functional design reviews with cross functional teams, engineers and designers.



  • BSME; Masters preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience required

Professional experience:

  • Experience with Rotary Screw Air End Design, experience with Rotor Profile Design a plus.
  • Strong mechanical engineering background from disciplines such as thermal engineering, machine design, turbomachinery and engineering drawing.
  • Experience performing CFD and FEA simulations.
  • Moderate understanding of engineering-level mathematics and physics.
  • Knowledge of compressor components such as gears and rotors, inlet and discharge valves, operation of a screw compressor and of acoustics.
