Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Senior System Validation Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Accountabilities

  • Guarantee the compliance of complex systems (in terms of number of interfaces and or contract value) to the customer requirements, building the required System Validation evidences
  • Ensure the systematic monitoring of the System Validation activities on projects, verifying that they are carried out in accordance to National (FTA) and International (CENELEC) Norms and Standards, to Company policies and processes (including Quality, RAM, Safety, besides Verification, Validation and Testing).
  • Drive proper analysis, escalation and management of System Validation issues in projects before the final Delivery.
  • Ensure the definition and the issue of the System V&V Plan
  • Ensure the provision of cost evaluation, planning, constraints and risks of System Validation, Testing & Laboratory Integration activities.
  • Ensure the planning and execution (in simulation, on target hardware, and in the field) of System Validation, Testing & Laboratory Integration activities, on quality, on time and on budget.
  • Ensure the accurate and complete tracking of system validation testing defects, using standard database tools
  • Ensure the delivery of System Validation, Testing & Laboratory Integration documents, needed at project level (e.g. Test Plans, Test Procedures, Test Reports).
  • Ensure the definition of the requirements and expected features for the testing environments/tools, needed to execute the System Validation, Testing & Laboratory Integration activities at project level.
  • Ensure the coordination with the project team, to guarantee that the System Validation, Testing & Laboratory Integration activities are executed in the most effective and efficient manner.
  • Ensure the compliance of System Validation, Testing & Laboratory Integration activities, with the selected international and national standards, with the requirements of customers, certification bodies and safety authorities, and with the RAMS Governance and Company processes.
  • Ensure technical support to Project RAMS Managers for management and interface of Independent Safety Assessor, Employer and External Authorities
  • Ensure the proper level of independence while defining and implementing the System Validation, Testing & Laboratory Integration activities, in compliance with applicable standards and required SILs.
  • Ensure the definition of points of contacts in the project teams about System Validation, and acting as a unique point of contact for external client about System Validation.
  • Monitor conflicts and issues about System Validation within projects, and ensure that they are either resolved or properly escalated.
  • Support the achievement of needed approvals and certifications in the projects
  • Ensure the collection and analyses of information about the occurrence of defects and quality of products under delivery to customers or already delivered and in use, including modifications to project configuration due to Obsolescence issues

Required Skills/ Knowledge

  • Background in Electrical/Electronic/Software Engineering; able to read and understand schematics, books of plans, and other mechanical drawings
  • Background in SW development and testing, particularly in IEE1483 and EN 50128 standards
  • Working knowledge of IXL Application Signaling Principles Testing
  • Working knowledge of On-Board Signaling Application Principles Testing
  • Capability to integrate and maintain, in laboratory, different equipment and sub systems (sub system integration and system integration), in order to build the required testing environment. Knowledge about the Test Processes. Ability to define and execute the test procedures to validate the system requirements and interfaces. Experience and knowledge in the operational rules of a rail and metro network.
  • Capability to ensure the definition of the correct strategy in terms of compliance of specifications to requirements (Verification), and in terms of test planning and methodologies (Validation). Capability to ensure the coverage of all the functional and safety critical aspects, in terms of management of requirements, tests definition, execution and analysis at application level.
  • Capability to evaluate the costs, the resources and the time needed to perform the required System Validation, Testing & Laboratory Integration activities on a specific project. Ability to monitor these three parameters and suggest corrective measures in order to be complied with the deadlines, quality and safety targets required.
  • Knowledge of methodologies and principles to support the RAMS activities in each phase of the whole project lifecycle (at both architectural and functional level).
  • Knowledge of the national and international standards required for the specific project in order to guarantee the system compliance with them.
  • Excellent communication skills (spoken and written)
  • Working knowledge of computer virtualization
  • Proficient knowledge in DOORS, Microsoft Office Products; limited knowledge of National Instruments LabVIEW

Desired Skills/ Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of Hitachi Rail products (MicroLok, MicroCab, AF Track Circuits, Hermes ATS, coreCBTC)
  • Proficient knowledge and work in a signaling system V&V testing environment. 
  • Limited working knowledge of safety analysis and RAM analysis

Education / Qualifications

  • Engineering Master Degree
