Hitachi Rail USA is seeking a Rolling Stock Project Planner in support of our North American Vehicle projects. The position will be based in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area, with the ability for occasional remote work with some travel to our manufacturing plant in Florida and customer locations in the United States.

The Project Planner ensures continuous and active monitoring of progress of the project and its critical path, and monitors the compliance of the assigned low complexity project (in term of number of involved technologies and project revenues) with all contractual milestones through the development and monitoring of the Project Delivery Master Schedule.

Accountabilities include (but are not limited to):

During the bidding phase, the Project Planner:

  • is accountable for the preparation of the Project Delivery Master Schedule based on contractual requirements and data provided by the Team members, within the timeframe defined by the Bid Manager.
  • provides the Project Delivery Master Schedule to the Bid Manager and to the PM.

During the project execution phase the Project Planner’s key activities and accountabilities are the following:

  • responsible for preparing and maintaining the Project Master schedule (First Level Schedule) in accordance with the contractual WBS and with the support of project team members and Work Package Leaders
  • Creates and monitors the Project Second Level Schedule, which represents a detailed schedule of the project activities (e.g. engineering, procurement, production, quality assurance, safety assurance, certification, delivery, construction, manuals & training, test & commissioning, homologation, warranty, contractual milestones) on the basis of the contributions of each Project Team Member
  • Supports the Project Controller in developing the WBS and collaborates with the Project Manager for the development of the contractual schedule of payment.
  • Ensures regular updates of the project schedules and the monitoring and reporting of the project physical progress (including Earned Value Analysis for S&T).
  • Creates and manages the project schedules necessary to provide evidence of progress to the customer, partners, and any third party.

Education Required:

Graduate in Economics / Engineering or equivalent Technical background

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Minimum of 4-5 year of experience
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Knowledge of Primavera – MS Project
  • Experience of managing budgets and costs (i.e. knowledge about budgeting, monitoring and reporting of revenues, internal and external costs, on Projects and  Functions)
  • Capability to plan project activities and to monitor and report project  status, understanding project issues and frontloading them with the project team in accordance to company project planning and monitoring process
  • Strong planning skills.
  • Good knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft office packages.
  • A self-starter willing to take responsibility for delivery of goals and objectives.
  • Proven performance of project delivery.
  • Familiar and comfortable in working in a project/function matrix organization.
  • Willingness to travel 20-30% of the time.

Languages:

Fluent in written and spoken English.

The preferred candidate will have a background in rolling stock manufacturing, maintenance, or another rail-related experience.
