Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Manager of Marketing – North America who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks and able to own and execute a strategy to support our regional business’ priorities, while managing a small but growing team. The position will be REMOTE.

We are seeking an innovative marketing manager to promote our company's brand and services. In this role, you will be optimizing our marketing strategies, managing the communications and marketing team’s budget, as well as preparing and executing project forecasts, coordinating and managing company events and various project management activities as needed.

The ideal candidate has experience developing and executing marketing campaigns adhering to the needs of multiple business streams. They will be comfortable with day-to-day marketing activities as well as long-term strategy, thriving under tight deadlines and changing needs. To ensure success, the ideal candidate should possess extensive knowledge of marketing strategies, key business and audience trends, and the propensity to achieve increased brand awareness externally.

General Role Accountabilities

Reporting to the Head of External Communications and Marketing (ECM) – North America, the Marketing Manager will curate, plan, edit and execute overall marketing strategy for Hitachi Rail North America and relevant business streams. The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Work closely with the Product, Marketing and Sales teams to develop and deliver an effective Marketing Strategy (content, engagement, products / services, evaluation / analysis, etc.) to help Hitachi Rail to build its brand and win work in the North American region.

  • Use project management skills to deliver events, site visits and customer engagement activities – ensuring alignment with the North America sales and projects team, marketing and communications strategy, including preparing presentational materials and content.

  • Develop Omni-channel campaigns to promote business objectives and broaden the reach of communications and marketing efforts, including traffic-driving initiatives (events, social media, etc.) that support campaigns and increase overall brand awareness.

  • Feed into the global team content strategy, in particular around decarbonisation and digital innovation. Including but not limited to: social media, email marketing, video, blog, white paper and content syndication, etc.

  • Work proactively to maintain positive relations and support for internal business partners, institutional partners, customers, clients and the wider industry.

  • Demonstrate effective budget and supplier management skills


  • Ensure execution of Regional Plans for marketing, external communications plans that help to Build the Brand, Win the Work in region with support of Global External Communications & Marketing Central teams. Close alignment with internal communications required for efficient story mining / telling activities 

  • Ensure execution of Project Communications Plans (including story mining) for Win the Work / Project Delivery activities for Global Projects managed in partnership with Hitachi Ltd, Hitachi Rail Regional Teams, and central CoE teams. 

Business Management 

  • Ensure implementation at Regional levels of all the activities related to External Communications & Marketing, with priorities / weighting defined and agreed by Regional Plan & Priorities in alignment with Hitachi Ltd, Hitachi Rail and other stakeholders as required. 

  • Facilitate business partner level support to regional leadership and sales teams as required for all external communications. 

  • Support the proposal and management of communications plans integrated with regional network (Hitachi Ltd, sites, projects, customer counterparts) 


  • Ensure delivery of regional communication campaigns and marketing activities as identified in the Regional Plan, with execution support of regional or Group teams as required.

  • Support identification and development of Hitachi Rail stories aligned to strategy (stories, project milestones, customer events) – with support of central Groups teams

  • Support identification and management of potential reputational risks – with a particular focus on sites and projects – with support of central Group teams

  • Support governance of regional network (e.g. local communications agencies, contractors or ambassadors on local sites or projects)

  • Support identification and management of potential reputational risks – with a particular focus on sites and projects

  • Support the development of competencies, skills and knowledge of the resources in alignment with Group HR strategy, guidelines and policies

Required Skills/ Knowledge

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, organizational and project management skills

  • Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills to interact with a range of stakeholders across multiple disciplines

  • Ability to utilize social media and modern digital platforms to support communications activity and corporate profiling

  • Experience with PR & Media engagement, stakeholder engagement (e.g. customer, political, industry groups), creation of written material (e.g. content, speeches, opinion pieces, new articles, blogs), budget management, project management

  • Strong relationship building skills to enable the post holder to establish and maintain effective internal working relationships with business departments, colleagues and partners

  • Ability to exercise judgement, identifying and managing risks and making clear, pragmatic decisions within a busy environment.

  • IT literate: Familiar with using word processing, databases, spread sheets, and modern digital platforms

  • Stamina, energy and enthusiasm to handle the demands of a global business that is growing rapidly and developing a portfolio of new business in the UK and in Europe

  • Able to attend events and other off-site functions with occasional overnight stays

  • Ability to travel between our locations on a frequency of around once per month for a period of approximately 2-5 days. Some international travel may be required, but this is unlikely to be frequent.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in Marketing

Desired Skills/ Knowledge

  • Prior experience in the transportation, utilities or infrastructure sectors with a strong focus on multi-stakeholder partnerships an advantage
  • Experience of managing in person or online events, managing teams, agencies and working for large multinational corporates
  • Experience collaborating with customer or partner communications & marketing teams
  • Experience mining and creating content for corporate social media channels (LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Strong project management skills
  • Intermediate in graphic design

Education / Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in marketing, business, or related field
