Summary of the position:

The overall objective of the Pricing Manager is to deliver financial impact by deploying pricing strategies and tools.  The Pricing Manager is tasked with driving a value-based pricing culture to optimize margin and revenue growth in support of organizational goals and strategies.  This will be achieved through developing and executing price strategies and discount management.  To facilitate this effort, processes and tools will need to be created/improved/acquired as determined by the Pricing Manager; including but not limited to SAP/ERP.

This role reports to the Director of Global Product Management.  The position may be based out of our executive office in Chicago, Illinois or alternatively, the position may work remotely within the continental USA.

Duties and responsibilities:

Value-based Pricing Culture

  • Driving strategic pricing strategies based on customer/product segmentation and customer willingness to pay for value added products and services, rather than traditional “cost-plus” approaches
  • Gather and analyze market, customer, and competitor pricing intelligence to identify and quantify opportunities for growth and margin expansion
  • Create and maintain database of competitive pricing to aid in strategy development and execution
  • Determine pricing leakages and profitability drivers, enhance processes to optimize efficiencies and ensure timely response to market conditions
  • Assist Channel Management and Marketing Communications with developing pricing communications including justification messaging
  • Work closely with Product Management and Sales to ensure price guidance is aligned with value proposition for existing products in addition to initial pricing for new products via the NPD process
  • Collaborate with Finance and Supply Chain to incorporate macroeconomic factors into pricing strategies

Pricing Processes

  • Optimize process for price communication with multiple levels of channel
  • Establish and maintain a process for pricing adjustments leveraging available resources
  • Improve process for escalated approval of special discounting including a Delegation of Authority to minimize price leakage and collect data for understanding
  • Support strategies for the management and integrity of all pricing elements (e.g. Minimum order quantities, Freight Price, Credit Terms, Rebates, etc.)
  • Establish appropriate KPIs and methods of ongoing measurement and control
  • Develop dashboards for reporting on the overall health of the pricing process



  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or Equivalent field
  • MBA preferred

Professional experience:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Pricing, Marketing, and/or Finance
  • Experience with operating in a matrixed organization including cross-departmental initiatives required
  • Experience with ERP systems, SAP preferred
  • Experience with industrial/manufacturing/capital equipment sold via multi-level distribution model preferred
  • Experience with multinational manufacturing companies (exchange rates, interco transfers, etc.) preferred
