Summary of the position:

The Continuous Improvement Engineer works in all aspects of Sullair’s Operations to analyze processes and practices for improvement opportunities. They develop, manage, and lead cross-functional continuous improvement projects in alignment with Sullair’s Quality goals.  This individual must be a change advocate and successfully motivate and lead cross-functional teams to the ultimate sustainable outcome utilizing Lean Six Sigma concepts and best practices of Hitachi. The position is a communication link between all departments for the continued alignment of goals in support of continuous improvements of quality at Sullair.

This position is located on site at Sullair, 1 Sullair Way, Michigan City, Indiana, and reports to the Director of Quality.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Investigate and analyze processes across function for gaps and bottlenecks based on standards, best practices, and performance metrics
  • Develop, manage, and lead continuous improvement projects aligning with department strategy and goals
  • Manage a portfolio of quality improvement projects and execute using Six Sigma and QA tools
  • Maintain and develop methods for collecting, tracking, and displaying operational quality data and metrics
  • Lead and assist root cause analysis investigations for key customer quality issues and COPQ
  • Train, coach, and motivate personnel in the understanding and adoption of new practices, processes and systems
  • Share best practices across products and departments and drive standardization
  • Specify, justify and implement new technology and system improvements
  • Work on deploying and demonstrating modules such as Change Management, Lean Six Sigma Overview, Teamwork & Training, Visual Factory Management, Continuous Improvement, Poka-Yoke, Standard Work

Qualifications

Education:

  • BS Degree in Engineering (Preferably Industrial or Mechanical)

Professional experience:

  • 5-10 years of experience of Continuous Improvement in Manufacturing, preferably of heavy equipment or automotive
  • Strong experience in applying Lean Six Sigma concepts and techniques
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven record of motivating and leading cross-functional teams on projects
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is a plus
  • Project management experience or PMP Certification is a plus
  • 6 Sigma Black belt certification is a plus
