Recently Hitachi is pushing globalisation of its business and management through M&A etc. Europe is one of the most important markets for Hitachi.

The Hitachi Europe GmbH (HEU), Government Relations Office (GRO) was established in 1988 to build a favourable business environment through its government relations activities. Currently it is looking for a manager who covers EU’s sustainability related policies* which includes environment and CSR. 

The details of sustainability related policies :

  • Climate and Energy: Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Hydrogen, EU Long-term climate strategy, COP, Energy and Climate targets, NbS Solutions, CCS projects and policies, Emissions Trading Scheme, CBAM and carbon taxation policies, Emissions and Air quality, Biodiversity Strategy.

  • Chemicals: REACH, RoHS, SCIP database, endocrine disruptors, Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability, Nanomaterials.

  • Product Policies: Circular Economy, EU Ecolabel, Ecodesign, Product/Organization Environmental Footprint (PEF / OEF), Green Claims Initiative, Batteries Regulation.

  • CSR: Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (incl. European Sustainability Reporting Standard), Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (incl. HRDD), Sustainable Finance (Inc. EU Taxonomy), Forced Labour Product Ban Legislation etc.

What you’ll be doing

You will report directly to the Executive General Manager of HEU-GRO and will play a key role in:

  • Monitoring and analyzing the risks/benefits of planned EU sustainability related policies including legislations and regulations.

  • Reporting the results of your monitoring and analysis to internal stakeholders including executives, Government Relations Office / Sustainability Office at Headquarters in Japan and Sustainability Office of Hitachi Europe and European subsidiaries.

  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders across Hitachi Group companies, you’ll have a strong focus on identifying and establishing an informed position for Hitachi on proposed EU policies and will take lobbying actions to EU (through Brussels based trade associations).

  • Give advice to internal stakeholders about the necessary actions they should take to comply with new legislations and/or to take advantage of the new business environment.

The role will also be responsible for:

  • Building and maintaining relationships with EU policy makers and commissions, other trade associations, and wider stakeholder groups across Hitachi Europe and globally. Approximately 7 years work experience in Brussels.

  • Communicating to Hitachi Europe’s regional members and Hitachi, Ltd’s relating members any EU policy developments and, critically, connecting how developments may impact their business and/or their customers.

  • Conducting substantive, thorough policy analysis and research and expertly synthesising complex information in verbal and written communications.

What you bring to the team

We’re looking for a team player, who is motivated by delivering great work and the Hitachi vision. The role will be a mixture of remote-hybrid work with days in the HEU-GRO Office in Brussels.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and background:

  • Hands-on regulatory policy experience in the private sector.

  • An in-depth understanding of the Brussels ecosystem and European regulatory landscape/policy creation processes.

  • Impeccable and demonstrable communications skills, with the ability to translate complex policy issues into understandable and succinct messaging for a broad audience.

  • An ability to multitask across a number of different subject matters.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving professional environment

  • An ability to build and maintain strong working relationships at varied levels with both internal stakeholder groups, external trade associations and EU commissions, and policy makers

  • English is mandatory, and fluency in French or Germany would be highly preferable
