Summary of the position:

We are looking for an experienced Powder Coating technician who will be responsible for preparing and powder coating metal parts to meet and/or exceed Sullair’s standards. Must pass pre-employment evaluation for respiratory protection.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Operate, adjust, and monitor an automated electrostatic powder coating booth.
  • Visually look for flaws and inconsistencies and perform touch ups by operating a manual spray gun.   
  • Direct line activities and manage line parameters for production pace.
  • Determine appropriate preparation of surfaces and application of powder coating.
  • Perform surface prep, masking, and plugging.
  • Inspect parts for quality/defects before and after coating.
  • Operate and maintain the 5 stage zirconium wash system.
  • Operate and maintain both the cure and dry off ovens.
  • Operate controls and functions of powder coating equipment.
  • Clean, maintain, and store tools and powder coating equipment.
  • Follow all safety procedures and protocols. Able to understand and adhere to safety warnings and guidelines.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on powder coating equipment.
  • Ensure work order sign off and inspection are complete.
  • Interpret technical documentation to determine correct paint application and surface finish.
  • Determine appropriate preparation of surfaces and application of paint.
  • Disposes properly of paints and other hazardous materials.
  • Safe material handling processes, including forklift driving and overhead crane operating.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Education or equivalent.
  • Experience in a sheet metal environment.
  • Certificates in relevant courses that cover mixing and applying paint, corrosion, drafting and CNC machinery preferred.

Professional experience:

  • Minimum 1-3 years of verifiable experience operating and maintaining a powder coat system.
  • Understand technical blueprints.
  • Computer skills required (i.e., spreadsheets, data entry, email).
  • Ability to use precision measurement device to work within tight tolerances.

Key behaviors:

  • Lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Lifting over 35 lbs. requires a lifting device, crane, or assistance from another associate.
  • Standing and walking minimum of 8 hours.
  • Must be able to bend/stoop, squat/crouch, kneel and twist.
  • Working with cranes, sharp edges on machined parts and moving parts by carts.
  • Working with high air pressure, chemicals and solvents and at times extreme noise.
  • Must understand and comply with Sullair Safety Standards.
  • Participate in EHS quarterly audits, if required.
  • Required to wear the proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the work area.
  • Required to attend scheduled toolbox and safety meetings.
  • Must immediately report injuries or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
