HITACHI RAIL is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Head of Project Engineering- North America who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Accountabilities: 

The Head of Project Engineering will contribute to the success of the Company:

  • Ensuring the implementation of the Company global technology standards and guidelines for delivery of projects
  • Ensure an on-quality, on-time, on-budget delivery of deliverables
  • Ensure the integration and technical outcome/output of the projects (technical solution implementation, budget and schedule) ensuring the contractual requirements are met.
  • Ensure the coordination of all required technical discussions among Authorities, Customer, Partners, other Contractors, and, if necessary, Suppliers
  • Ensure, for the assigned bid(s) active participation to the bidding phase, ensuring alignment with Solution strategies and plans, and challenging the overall costs
  • Challenging the technical solution proposed by the Project Engineer for a specific project to ensure that is fit for purpose
  • Ensure a first escalation point outside the project team for all the issues affecting the delivery of the project
  • Coordinate regular reporting on status of projects, with focus on tracking key KPIs
  • Ensure the implementation of the project risk management strategy.
  • Ensure the monitoring of the project progress status by means of periodical meetings aimed to verify and to address the project document submission, project organizational issues (i.e. staffing), the budget costs, the time schedule, no-conformities and projects criticalities, which have to be timely reported to Project Manager.
  • Ensure the continuous effective development of competencies, skills and knowledge of the assigned resources, defining and implementing development plans for the resources of the team

Required Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in a large engineering company/ infrastructure/ engineering consultancy
  • Minimum 5 years of functional management experience leading an engineering team
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, engage, and manage tasking of cross-functional teams of varying skills/experience
  • Prior experience supporting large Bids and Proposals for new work
  • Prior experience with Project Management:  maintaining and controlling budget, scheduling and monitoring, maintaining risk register, managing resources and tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective, cross functional relationships with exceptional communication and leadership skills
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills

Desired Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Experience in Rail or rail transit domain- PTC, Signaling, Interlocking, ATS      
  • Professional Engineering license
  • Experience with overall systems architecture design
  • Experience with robust, mission critical control systems

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
