Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Telecom integration Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Naples, Italy.

Accountabilities 
 

During the bid and project development phases (D&B, Design and Build phase): 

  • support the integration of Telecom subsystems, with special focus on PIS (Passenger Information Systems), ECP (Emergency Call Point System) and Radio systems; 

  • Ensure the identification, the management and the fulfilment of the contractual requirements  

  • Prepare the subsystem requirements specification; 

  • Guarantee the preparation of the Conceptual Design, Detail Design and Installation Design for the above subsystems based on the requirements analysis; 

  • Identify and resolve the interfaces with the main internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Signaling, Civil Work, Rolling Stock, SCADA, HSE, RAMS, QA, etc.) 

  • Guarantee the continuous updating of the standard design in accordance to the technology innovation  

  • Prepare functional and performance test specifications 

  • Prepare configuration templates based on the standard design 

  • Lead the Factory Acceptance tests and the FIT (Factory Integration Test) activities 

  • Support the type test during the startup of the commissioning activities, through a proper coaching of onsite resources 

  • Supervise the proper execution of the commissioning and SAT (Site Acceptance Test) activities  

  • Support system tests during trial run. 

During revenue service phase (O&M phase), 

  • support O&M department for L2/L3 maintenance activities. 

  • support O&M department to manage obsolescence of the Telecom solutions, by proposing new state of the art solutions aligned with the market trends and compliant with railways requirements. 

 

Required Skills/Knowledge 

  • Experience of at least 5 years in the railway industry with the role of Systems Engineer and/or Designer focused on integration of Telecom subsystems. 

  • Knowledge of the main office automation software/tools (Word, Excel, etc.). 

  • Good knowledge of the disciplines of telecommunications, electrical engineering, electronics and basic knowhow of mechanics is required.  

  • Good knowledge of Networking systems (switching, wired and wireless LAN networks, routing protocols), VoIP call managers (e.g. Asterisk, Cisco, Alcatel Lucent), Linux OS systems.  

  • Attitude to manage integration and troubleshooting of the above disciplines. 

  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organisation, with the attitude to contribute with constructive and practical ideas. 

  • Readiness to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, multitasking international environment. 

  • Availability for national and international business trips. 

  • Recommended knowledge of electrical/mechanical design software (Autocad) and the IBM DOORS requirements management tool. 

  • Knowledge of the main regulations relating to on-board and wayside systems in the railway business. 

  • Knowledge of Engineering Processes and Railway Operations. 

 
 
Desired Skills/Knowledge 

  • More than 5 years working experience about networking systems (switching, wired and wireless LAN networks, routing protocols), VoIP call managers (e.g. Asterisk, Cisco, Alcatel Lucent), Linux OS systems.  

  • Versatile in learning and strong desire to remain up-to-date with changes in technology and best industry practices. 

  • Strong business acumen & technical skills. 

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Attitude to work in an international and multi-cultural reality. 
     

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Engineering Degree, preferred 5 years Degree (or equivalent working experience) 

  • 3-5 years of telecom System Engineering expertise 

  • Railway experience is preferred but also experiences in other similar telecom sectors can be considered (e.g. Oil&gas, passenger information system integrators, IT companies etc.). 

Languages 

Fluent Knowledge of English (written & spoken).
