Your new role

The Contract Manager will be responsible for ensuring that contracts bid for and entered into by the company meet with their commercial and legal requirements and standards of compliance. The Contract Manager will also oversee the management of established contracts, including ensuring information integrity, and negotiating changes to deliver outcomes aligned with project expectations.

This role is based in Glasgow with flexibility for hybrid working.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Contracts – Drafting of contracts in cooperation with the Legal department, Evaluation, and Negotiation, including Non-Disclosure Agreements, Bidding Agreements, Memorandum of Understanding.
  • Lead contract reviews during bidding.
  • Participate in negotiation and management of variation orders to improve commercial position.
  • Ensure contractual records and documentations are maintained (including contract correspondence, contractual changes, status reports and other documents).
  • Ensure that signed contracts are communicated to all relevant parties to provide contract visibility and awareness, interpretation to support implementation.
  • Handle on-going issue and change management.
  • Monitor transaction compliance (milestones, deliverable, invoicing etc.).
  • Ensure timely contract closeout, extension or renewal (incl. pursuit of return of bonds or securities).
  • Support the project team with contract management activities during project delivery (incl. identification and resolution of main contractual issues, claims and disputes in accordance with contractual provisions, action plan definition, providing contractual clarification / position to project’s team members).
  • Ensure monitoring and reporting on the project’s commercial risks and support identification of opportunities and risk mitigation strategies to ensure key project milestones are achieved.
  • Develop contract training materials and impart training to project management group, delivery team and all the relevant staff in contracting clause, practices and procedures.
  • Implement procedures for contract management and administration in compliance with company policy.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as required.

About you

Essential Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Excellent academic qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Project/Construction/Building Management
  • Post graduate qualifications in Construction/ Contract law and or Commercial Management (e.g. IARICS, CIOB……) or equivalent
  • Demonstrate strong Commercial Contract Management experience, including contract administration and tender evaluation
  • A good level of understanding of contract and commercial law
  • A working knowledge of various commercial contracts
  • Sound understanding of drafting of letters, documents and claims, using recognised contractual terms and conditions

  • Leadership and team working orientation, excellent interpersonal skills
  • Highly organised and capable of working with a significant level of autonomy
  • Conflict management & negotiation
  • Be able to successfully operate within multi stakeholder environments

Desirable Requirements:

  • Proven experience of adding commercial value within nuclear, mechanical and electrical and or rail industry
  • Experience with Turn Key, EPC contracts
  • Experience within Rail Operation, Service, Maintenance business environment would be useful
  • Experience in commercial roles in complex technical or engineering based organization, matrix structures or regulatory environments
  • Experience of working in a global business / an international commercial role
  • Other language skills would be useful, however a good level of English is essential
