Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Process Engineering & Maintenance Manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Batesburg, SC.

Accountabilities

  • Reports directly to the Director of Manufacturing (Plant Manager) for the Batesburg SC facility.
  • Leads a team comprised several engineers (Industrial, Electrical and Mechanical) to provide technical support to the factory manufacturing operations.
  • Works with the production line managers to support and coordinate process maintenance or improvements without adversely affecting manufacturing production.
  • Prioritizes and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the team. Activities of the team may consist of immediate shop floor support of manufacturing processes, tooling creation/maintenance, process improvements, new process introduction, capital project proposals and implementation.
  • Participates in the factory production review meeting to provide technical updates, learn of potential production risk to the overall manufacturing Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and take action to avoid manufacturing production delays/stoppages.
  • Provides annual forecast of PE&M team operating budget expenses and capital project budget requests.
  • Serves as the PE&M team liaison with other managers internal/external to the factory to support New Product Introduction (NPI), review engineering change requests, provide assistance/support to the factory for the implementation of engineering change requests as needed.
  • Oversees the PE&M team requirements to create/maintain manufacturing process documentation.
  • Handles the reporting responsibilities for the First Pass Test Yield (FPTY).
  • Coordinates special process monitoring and training needs as pertaining to ISO certification requirements.

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Must be competent and confident enough to communicate in a multi-cultural global business environment and interact at all levels of the organization.
  • Broad experience with various manufacturing processes relating to mechanical and electrical products.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and direct the activities of an engineering team in a low volume/high product mix manufacturing environment.

Desired Skills/ Knowledge

  • Previous experience as an engineering manager in a low volume/high product mix manufacturing environment.
  • Experience and working knowledge of LeanSigma processes and principles to drive continuous improvement activities.
  • Experience in the railway signaling and rail transportation controls industry for both mass transit and freight rail.

Education / Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering or engineering technology or 5-7 years in an engineering management role.
