Buyer Planner Specialist

Company: Hitachi Particle Engineering and Services, Inc.

Summary:

Under direct supervision, provides assistance in the performance of various routine purchasing assignments and planning of production materials. Assists in the procurement of supplies, raw materials, and equipment necessary for the operation of the organization. Work with manufacturing team to ensure the production schedule is on track.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Under direct supervision, responsible for most company purchasing. Assures the acquisition of all material goods meets the technical requirement and AccSys design specification.

  • Places orders for material goods, services and supplies (with the exception of office supplies) for ongoing company projects, manufacturing and operations.

  • Sources and qualifies new suppliers for products and services.

  • Negotiates and administers contracts with suppliers including purchasing terms and pricing.

  • Manages suppliers’ performance.

  • Trains, delegates and reviews the work of lower level employees in the department.

  • Ensure material availability per project’s master schedule.

  • the amount of material needed to meet production schedules and customer requirements.

  • Determines material requirements from Engineering and Manufacturing Departments and coordinates efficient movement of parts and materials through production cycles, particularly manufacturing order routing interface.

  • Supports preparation and review of work packages (Job Travelers) as directed for new manufacturing orders, including generation of drawing and documents.

  • Daily contact with vendors, soliciting quotations from vendors and analyzing bids. Aids in vendor selection, and negotiating prices and terms as appropriate.

  • Maintains appropriate logs and records of all purchases and inventoried parts in compliance with established corporate policies and procedures.

  • Oversees shipments of parts and materials to vendors for processing. Performs other procurement tasks as assigned by Purchasing Manager.

  • Assists in materials management to meet budget and schedule goals.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Requires use of personal computer, telephone, copier, fax, and other office machines.

Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

Physical activities required to perform essential job functions:

Lift and carry 35 pounds occasionally. Communicate by speech and hearing continuously. Write by hand and keyboard.  Movement within office, shop, and storage area. Communicate by telephone and in person. Visual acuity needed for close detail work, computer use, and the reading of documents. Travel by automobile, plane, and/or train.

Mental activities required to perform essential job functions:

Moderately complex reading, writing and math skills. Perception, comprehension and analysis. Independent judgment and initiative.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree required in purchasing, materials management or related subject.

Minimum of 5 years relevant purchasing and/or manufacturing planning experience.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent organizational and time management skills. Effective communications skills. PC and ERP literate.

For California only (as required by California’s Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act (SB 1162): The expected salary for this position in our California office  is $60,056 - $75,070. Pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. Employees are eligible to participate in Hitachi America’s variable pay program, subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions.
