JR Automation has a unique opportunity for someone to help develop Hitachi’s lithium-ion battery initiative for six to twelve months prior to joining our Process Team full-time in Nashville to design fully-automated, capital equipment for the film, fiber, and continuous web industries.

As a Mechanical Design Project Engineer, you will work with some of the most talented engineers in the automation industry.  This role will enable you to facilitate projects while utilizing your machine design skills to integrate some of the most state of the art robotics & technology available.  The innovative solutions we work on offer diverse experiences that will strengthen your skills and challenge your abilities. 

What You’ll Do:  

  • Develop conceptual designs and create system level architecture.
  • Establish project plans including coordination of technical resources.
  • Make recommendations for design direction.
  • Complete layout of machine through detail of all components.
  • Assist with the successful management of assigned projects as they relate to cost, quality, timing, and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage several on-going projects concurrently.
  • Assist in developing the Mechanical Engineering department thru leadership, experience, encouragement, and mentorship.

What You’ll Bring: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • At least three years of machine design experience of fully automated systems/capital equipment required, (five or more years strongly preferred).
  • Three or more years of experienced with CAD software required (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Machine design experience in one of the following industries is required: film, fiber, and/or continuous web.
  • International business experience is strongly preferred.
  • Professional Engineer or other technical certification preferred.

Skills You’ll Have:  

  • Bilingual in English and Japanese strongly preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of automation products, services, and the industry.
  • Capable of creating machine designs with complex assemblies and subassemblies. 
  • Previous team or project leadership experience required.

Other Details:  

  • During the first phase (six to twelve months) of your employment working on the Hitachi project, you will be expected to travel up to 50% of the time including international travel to Japan. After this phase, travel will be reduced to 30 – 35%.
  • Function as subject matter expert, initiate and maintain extensive contact with key engineers, customers, and industry contacts/organizations, including presenting proposals and solutions.
  • Lead teams and influence project direction and progress.
  • Serve as a technical expert in the department and mentor/train other engineers and team members.
