Summary of the position:

The Import and Compliance Specialist is responsible for transportation and compliance tasks with a focus on import and export trade compliance.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Execute the US HTS / EU HS classification process. Build and maintain an HTS database by properly classifying Sullair’s products for import and export shipments (as well as EU HS for European shipments).
  • Work closely with Sullair’s customs broker(s) to ensure that they have the information that they need to properly clear Sullair’s import shipments. Audit entries as part of the post entry process.
  • US export controls compliance – Monitor automated processes for denied parties screening (including doing manual checks as required) and provide support for ECCN use. ECCN classification is not a task handled by the Import and Compliance Specialist.
  • Provide support to ensure that all US export controls regulations are followed and perform company training as needed. Also, perform an annual audit of Sullair’s export controls processes (as directed by Hitachi).
  • Remove compliance-related blocks on export orders (missing HTS classification, country of origin, ECCN, denied parties).
  • Ensure compliance on FTAs (free trade agreements) by collecting certificates of origin from vendors and providing Sullair’s certificates as needed.
  • Assist with determination of country of origin when necessary (i.e., kits).
  • Become certified for hazardous materials transportation and provide guidance and training as necessary.
  • Update and maintain standard work (SOPs) for all relevant tasks.
  • Manage records for all tasks while following record retention regulations.
  • Any other compliance related tasks that may be required.
  • Assist as a backup for import transportation tasks.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Professional experience:

  • At least 2 years of US HTS classification experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Strong grasp of MS Office suite (including the ability to develop and maintain an Excel or Access database)
  • Ability to navigate and understand U.S. Government import/export regulations.
  • Experience with reading technical drawings a plus.
  • SAP Experience a plus
