General information: Hitachi energy is seeking for a Pre-Production Quality Engineer for it's South Boston, VA location. This role is responsible for working directly with the Marketing, Sales, and Engineering organizations to ensure that a robust, disciplined pre-production process is implemented and maintained. The objective of this role is to ensure that the customer requirements are appropriately reviewed, that non-standard requirements are carefully evaluated, and that a thorough design process is in place to ensure that customer requirements and design for manufacturability requirements are achieved. This position will be instrumental in developing the appropriate pre-production process steps, the related process controls, the defining and capturing of performance metrics to define success, and the identification of root causes and countermeasures to address process weaknesses that could lead to downstream errors, defects and waste. Responsibilities: Planning and execution of a comprehensive, robust product realization process, including effective contract/order reviews, design controls, quality planning, risk assessments/management, design reviews, design verification/validation, and test method development and validation. Analysis of internal quality metrics such as internal change notices (ICNs), production efficiency, design and/or production holds, and margin slippage that result from errors and ambiguity in customer order requirements or design specifications. Analysis of warranty data to determine errors and defects that are the result of a failure to adequately define and capture customer requirements, design errors, or design for manufacturability conflicts. The implementation of process improvements that address the root causes of errors in the tenders/proposal, order development and design processes. Auditing the front-end Order/Tender submission process as well as the Engineering Design process in order to ensure compliance to established standards and defined procedures. Key participant in Engineering Design Reviews to ensure that customer requirements and design-for-manufacturability methods are fully incorporated. Oversee and monitor the front-end Change Management process. Your background: Bachelor's degree in engineering or a technical field. Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States. Minimum 8 years of experience in a technical role, with minimum 5 years of experience applying quality engineering and quality management system methods, including ISO 9000, Design FMEA, and stage-gate development cycles. Experience in developing, auditing, monitoring and improving order review and product development processes. Experience in transformer design and manufacturing is a plus. Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) through ASQ preferred. A proven track record of continuous process improvement; positive leadership; strong planning experience and connecting solutions to business outcomes. Experience working in a fast paced, continually changing, matrixed manufacturing environment.
