Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated MAINTENANCE FIELD TECHNICIAN who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Milan, Italy.

Accountabilities

  • The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for providing on-site technical support for the Trackside, Data Communication System and Wayside CBTC Signalling.  These systems are predominantly electronic, software based systems.
  • Performs routine, preventive and unscheduled maintenance, inspection, adjustments, testing, cleaning, lubrication and proper maintenance on Wayside CBTC equipment, Data Communication System,  in accordance with wiring diagrams, schematics, operations manuals and manufacturers maintenance instructions.
  • Observes Wayside CBTC, Data Communication System components and devices in operation to detect potential failures and locates causes of malfunction.  Responds to Wayside CBTC, Data Communication System malfunctions completing repairs as assigned. Uses electronic test equipment and other specialized tools as required.
  • Completes assigned operational, equipment failure, safety and other reports as required.
  • Participates in training programs as required.
  • Complies with Safety Rules, Operating Rule Book and first-aid procedures.
  • May work variable hours.
  • Performs related duties as required

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Experience with electronic equipment maintenance, in particular with signalling equipment (CBTC, ATS, Data Communication System)
  • Experience and knowledge of main programming/scripting techniques (Bash, Python, C/C++, VBA)
  • Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and Redhat Enterprise Linux operating systems
  • Experience and knowledge of Network - Data Communication System (Cisco, Hirschmann, Moxa)
  • Experience with common and specialized tools and test equipment (Fluke, Oscilloscope ecc ecc).
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to attain knowledge of the safety rules regarding lock-out protection while working on the line and the rules governing the protection of traffic.
  • Ability to use and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, operations manuals, manufacturers' maintenance instructions, Operating Book of Rules, etc. and to comprehend the operations and maintenance of Wayside CBTC system, Data Communication System.

Education/Qualification

Master's Degree (Engineering) or Equivalent Technical Background.

Languages

Fluent in English.
