Summary of the position:

This position supervises Material Handler Teams for Sullair in Michigan City, Indiana according to established policies and procedures in order to mitigate loss. Responsible for material movement and handling within the manufacturing and storage facilities.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage the flow (inbound/outbound and internal replenishment) of material through the production and warehouse facilities in support of production to ensure delivery demands and schedules are met.

  • Select workers and assigns tasks to be performed.

  • Maintain balanced workloads by shifting assignments, workers and other resources under own control to achieve the most effective material handling and material processing operations.

  • Explain work requirements, methods, and procedures; instruct workers in new procedures; and provide advice when problems arise.

  • Adjust plans, assignments, and methods as necessary to accomplish the work as effectively and economically as feasible.

  • Ensure all employees are trained on material handling and material processing procedures to include but not limited to receipt, stocking and distribution of material.

  • Facilitate timely response and/or actions to material issues.

  • Match, check, and compare data within SAP’s inventory management system with materials to be moved and consolidated against materials already in storage locations.

  • Correct inventory discrepancies and ensure corrective action is taken.

  • Quarantine and disposition of non-conforming and scrap material.

  • Drive resolution on non-conforming material to keep "hold" material to a minimum.

  • Coordinate activities with manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, planning, and quality departments to resolve material shortages.

  • Provide weekly schedules for direct reports, including starting/ending times, as well as overtime hours.

  • Monitor overtime hours to stay within budget while maintaining adequate coverage to support operations.

  • Hold direct reports accountable to uphold Sullair values and policies; issue discipline as required in conjunction with the Human Resource Department.

  • Review and execute corrective actions for Near Miss and Recordable safety incidents. Conduct proactive audits for discoveries of potential safety-related issues.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associates degree or other post high school training (2 years duration) or Equivalent Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Inventory Management, Supply Chain Management, Operations or Supervision preferred

  • Supply Chain Management certification, such as CLA and CLT, a plus

Professional experience:

  • Three or more years of experience in inventory management and/or supervision.

  • Working knowledge of Inventory Control Software, SAP, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).

Key behaviors:

  • Lifting up to 35 lbs, lifting over 35 lbs. requires a lifting device, crane, or assistance from another associate

  • Standing and walking minimum of 8 hours, must be able to bend/stoop, squat/crouch, kneel and twist

  • Must understand and comply with Sullair Safety Standards
