Your new role

Hitachi Rail have a great opportunity for an experienced, strategically minded planner to join our dedicated rail control centre as a Fleet Planner. As a Fleet Planner you will develop and deliver the operational maintenance plan with the necessary information to allow for the effective scheduling and execution of rolling stock maintenance across all of our Train Maintenance Centres.

Within this position as a Fleet Planner you will use your previous assess management and planning skills to ensure that all of our 93 trains around the UK are available in line with customer requirements whilst maintaining compliance across contractual, performance, technical and safety standards at all times. To do this, you will work with various colleagues across the business as well as external suppliers and customers requiring excellent communication and collaborative skills.

Our Rail Operating Centre is a fast paced environment as our fleet and requirements are constantly moving therefore flexibility and the ability to adapt in an evolving workspace is a must. Due to the pace and demands of our fleet we require candidates to have flexibility to work on a shift basis with some weekend working included.

About you…

Applicants should be able to demonstrate all of the essential requirements listed below:

Essential

  • Previous experience of planning maintenance and production.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to think quickly to make clear, considered decisions.
  • Experience of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) – SAP, Maximo or Equinox.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Capable of working in fluid, ever evolving environments for long periods of time.
  • Strong organisation and prioritisation skills

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience in product improvement and reliability engineering on UK rolling stock.
  • Sound knowledge of railway operations and compliance to railway rules and regulations.
  • Minimum Engineering HNC or equivalent qualification.
  • Vocational engineering qualifications and experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience.

Role responsibilities include…

  • Focus on future maintenance work: daily; weekly; monthly; quarterly; and annually in order to develop and continually refine the maintenance plan for the AT300 fleets.
  • Assess the operational situation and dispatch requirements in order to provide input to the maintenance plan.
  • Identify and prioritise tasks in accordance with contractual, performance, technical and safety requirements.
  • Create and identify maintenance windows and determine the number of work hours available in order to produce work orders.
  • Liaise with Engineering and Supply Chain departments to identify, allocate and leverage resources to enable the maintenance plan.
  • Actively monitor the backlog of defects in order to reduce the amount of reactive maintenance and improve reliability in collaboration with production schedulers
  • Identify, monitor and resolve any material issues which affect the overall maintenance plan.
  • Liaise with the Contract Performance Technicians in the Railway Operating Centre (ROC) to initiate and plan technical investigations, where required, for delays have been attributed to the AT300 fleet.
  • Liaise with contractors and external repair agencies in order to inform the maintenance plan.
  • Manage costs through the effective and efficient alignment of resources.
  • Be reactive to incidents, disruptions and emergencies on the operational railway and amend the maintenance plan accordingly.
  • Develop and issue the 36 day plan and ensure allocations to deliver the plan are understood and communicated.
  • To coordinate with the TMC on the timing and delivery of failed units, ensuring the depots are aware of the incidents and that a rectification is required. This shall include a return to service plan.
  • Adapts the maintenance plans when circumstances demand whilst ensuring that mileage or date based restrictions are not exceeded. Adaptations to the maintenance plan must take into consideration TMC road availability and constraints.
  • Planning horizon; in conjunction with the Fleet Allocations, develop a scheduled maintenance plan to include exams, checks, modifications, lathe, toilet, cleaning activities and defects
