Your new role

Hitachi Rail are offering an exciting opportunity to join its growing UK Services business by joining the Etches Park team in Derby. The fleet consists of 33 five car class 810 Bi mode trains that will revolutionise rail in Derby.

In this exciting role you will have the overall responsibility for the safe, efficient and profitable operation of Train maintenance at The TMC. This role will also involve regular travel to Doncaster and Newton Aycliffe. This is a 2 year fixed term contract.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Manage and maintain good quality, health, safety and environmental practices in the workplace
  • Manage resources and prioritise workload to undertake unplanned activities for traction and rolling stock reliability and casualty repairs. 
  • Support resources and prioritise workload to undertake planned traction and rolling stock engineering activities
  • Responsible for staff recruitment of maintenance team members
  • Responsible for the continued development and succession planning of maintenance team members
  • To be familiar with ECM (Entity in Charge of Maintenance) requirements and their applicability to Hitachi Rail Limited and the responsibilities within the role 
  • Manage costs through effective and efficient planning of resources
  • Manage relevant budgets
  • Support the Head of Operations in commercial and business development opportunities
  • Develop fleet reliability Improvements through the use of root cause analysis tools and techniques
  • Encourage and coordinate depot continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Encourage and develop best practice of defect and maintenance procedures
  • Manage maintenance expectations in line with business KPI’s and targets.
  • Review and identify where improvements to the maintenance process are required
  • Ensure that maintenance activities are accurately reported and entered into data management systems
  • Ensure rolling stock maintenance activities are executed to plan.
  • Carryout investigations as required in accordance with company policy and procedures
  • Manage disciplinary issues as required.
  • On Call Duties
  • Support and provide professional liaison with the customer with regards fleet and contractual requirements as required.
  • Develop professionally healthy and supporting working relationships
  • Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi’s new business demands as required
  • Liaison with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post

About you

Essential

Licences / Competences

  • Network Rail Sentinel PTS
  • Stock-Specific maintenance VIT training
  • Risk assessment Training
  • Trained Assessor
  • Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations (internal and external)

Qualifications

  • M & E HNC or served engineering apprenticeship.
  • ILM leadership and management level 2 or equivalent

Behavioural

  • Good written, listening and verbal communication skills
  • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times
  • Excellent team manager and worker
  • Ability to work under their own initiative.
  • Ability to challenge and hold people to account

Desirable

Licences / Competences

  • Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel, Equinox, SAP,
  • Production / operations management experience / qualifications is preferred. 
  • Extensive managerial experience working within a rail maintenance environment
  • Depot Protection

  • AC/DC Depot isolation
