Product Line Director

Hitachi Power Grids is looking for a Product Line Director (PLD) of R&D to produce the next generation of mission-critical, enterprise software for current and new markets. 

The PLD is responsible for leading multi-disciplinary scrum teams in the planning, development, management and tracking of delivery releases that meet committed scope, timeline, and budgetary requirements in compliance with quality standards and goals.  This role includes both direct management of and providing oversight to those responsible for release planning, team structuring, capacity setting, scrum team assignments, execution tracking, risk management and development performance management of scrum teams.

Responsibilities include ensuring adherence to software development processes defined by multiple discipline practice areas and supporting the governance of those review processes.  The PLD is expected to strive towards constant optimization of productivity while delivering high quality, competitive products to meet strategic and market demands.

This role will require collaborating with the PMO, Product Management, Quality, Security, and CX Leaders as part of the process of delivering releases.  In addition, the role will actively engage with peer R&D organizations in the business unit.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering, Physics or Math and 15+ years’ experience
• Experience leading large multiple site, multiple product enterprise software development teams at the Senior Director and above level of responsibility.
• Must have worked in software development as a Software Developer for at least 5 years professionally in any of the following languages: Python, GO, Java, JavaScript, C#.
• Understand micro-services, cloud environments, distributed computing for high-availability.
• Ability to work with global teams in global time zones

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduate degree in related disciplines
• International experience with global projects and collaboration with intercultural team is a must, a global mindset
• Excellent leadership and communication skills with experience in building and managing teams of cross-functional experts in multiple regions globally
• Strong track record of successfully delivering innovation to the market
• Full software development lifecycle experience including Agile methodologies
• Software Architecture background
• Worked with Kubernetes and Docker Containers
• Familiar with AWS and Azure Cloud environments

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for overall scheduling, resourcing development, delivery and support of the product line
• Responsible for Product Line R&D P&L
• Own and drive the development of the innovative products derived from the current product line and next generation technologies
• Drive organizational efficiencies, collaboration, and a strong engineering culture
• Increase adoption and maturity of Agile, Lean, Quality, and Cybersecurity methodologies
• Partner with other business units, corporate research, and technology leaders across the Hitachi Energy organization to leverage and collaborate on products and technologies for new solutions to bring to market.
