Summary of the position:

The OEM Applications Engineer is a sales and application support role working directly with our OEM customers to ensure the highest quality and most reliable systems and system components are selected for integration into the OEM’s equipment. Working as part of a cross-functional team, the Applications Engineer role allows for a diverse set of experiences, including requirement development, application validation, field support and direct customer interaction and collaborative engineering. This individual will complete and/or coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and provide customer focused input to the team for success in the market.

This position may be located in Michigan City, Indiana; Chicago, Illinois; or remote within the USA.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Support the OEM business on Hitachi product line and Sullair product line
  • Understand complete OEM product range capabilities to provide accurate performance runs in Sullpercal to customer for optimal air end/gas end/drill kit/tank assembly
  • Provide performance curve in Sullpercal software with multiple running conditions (full load/partial load/unloaded conditions)
  • Provide pre-engineered product information, such as marked up drawings, marked up BOM, marked up parts, and Sullair PN’s to OEM Engineering
  • Provide complete scope and supply of engineered product to OEM Engineering
  • Work closely with OEM director, account managers, customers and engineering reviewing scope and supply of projects: including performance runs, BOM’s, drawings, PN’s if available
  • Support to price and quote before and after rationalization of final product
  • Provide Package design recommendations
  • Review customer PO’s to ensure accurate pricing and PN is listed
  • Assist OEM (Sullair and Hitachi product lines) director, account managers, Engineering and Customers in designing new components required for system (i.e. manifold)
  • Support OEM applications for all different regions: NA, LATAM, EMEA, AU, China
  • Map out transition of all technical documentation and knowledge from application engineer (consultant) to new application engineer
  • Keep organized all technical information for OEM business (drawings, engineering data, performance curves, technical data sheets)
  • Work with OEM’s to define scope of project, project timelines & gateways and expected deliverables
  • Work directly with OEM engineering teams to justify and coordinate projects
  • Serve as the technical point of contact and facilitate communication between the sales team, engineering support team and customers
  • Work with Product Management, Commercial, and Engineering teams to develop proposals based on meeting the scope of the project and industry certifications
  • Work with the Service Team, OEM and traffic to identify and resolve field issues
  • Travel 30% in North America to customer sites and facilities

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 2-5 years’ experience and/or
  • 5-10 years practical compressor industry experience

Professional experience:

  • Experience in the specifications and applications of oil-flooded screw (Air & Process Gas), Oil-less scroll and Oil Free reciprocating compressors
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and SAP
  • Strong customer focus with a demonstrated ability to develop relationships and interface with customers on critical technical matters
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Technical aptitude to quickly and efficiently gather, understand, condense and organize information necessary to make informed engineering decisions
  • Ability to communicate clearly using both written and verbal methods
  • Ability to communicate professionally with all levels of the organizations including both internal and external customers
  • Possess a self-motivated desire to learn and can share and apply new knowledge effectively
  • Strong analytical abilities and technical knowledge of systems and controls
  • Initiative and independence with a demonstrated ability to succeed in a cross-functional team environment
