Job PurposeThe role of the Managed Services (MS) Technical Consultant - Compute resides in the functional area of Postsales services as part of our highly experienced Managed Service team. Specifically the role provides technical and operational support services across the client's enterprise storage, fabric and compute technologies. These platforms include Hitachi Vantara storage, as well as 3rd Party products such as VMware, CommVault, and Cisco fabric and compute solutions. This is delivered primarily from the customer site and various locations as required.
The Technical Consultant role at times is required to be involved in other nonoperational tasks including presales and project tasks including but not limited to pre-requisite checklists, initial installation, troubleshooting, implementation, customization, integration and "hands on" training of systems that support Hitachi Vantara Customers. The Technical Consultant works closely with Project Management, Principal Consultants, Service Delivery Managers and other MS Technical Consultants and the customer to ensure a smooth implementation and transition from project kick-off through integration/testing/production mode to project close and ongoing operations and support.
For this position at Hitachi Vantara, in-depth knowledge of Cisco compute platforms (specifically UCS) is required as this role will be the lead subject matter expert on compute platforms for the Managed Service. You will administer, configure, and deploy effective physical Compute solutions. You must be able to support and troubleshoot problems in a complex physical and virtual compute environment. An in-depth knowledge of VMware, both physical and virtualised platform environments is also required.
Responsibilities• Demonstrated working proficiency in compute platform management
• Manage and administer the Cisco UCS hardware environment
• Administer hardware components specifically focused on Hitachi, Cisco and VMware
• Advanced skills: Familiar with Hitachi storage systems and Cisco fabric environments
• Interpret storage protocols including iSCSI, Fiber Channel, CIFS, NFS, NDMP protocols and hardware, which use these products
• Maintain current knowledge of compute-related trends and issues including current emerging technologies and best practices
• Provide capacity planning, performance analysis, develop disaster recovery plans, lead efforts towards UCS compute administration and modernisation
• Provide technical expertise, guidance and strategic recommendations to develop a roadmap that ensures that the current and planned compute solutions are compatible with the company's business needs and strategic objectives
• Develop, implement and oversee policies and procedures to ensure consistent compute platform provisioning, uptime, regulatory compliance and data protection
• Willingness to manage a 24x7x365 storage, compute and backup environment including on-call rotation, weekend work, etc
• Extensive experience in support and documentation of compute platforms with a strong focus on Cisco UCS technologies
• Supporting compute, storage, and fabric in a VMware virtualization environment
• Manage and provide current compute usage statistics, provide future projected growth estimates
• Ability to plan, document and effectively implement projects and systems
• Demonstrated ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment with many deadlines and competing priorities
Qualifications:• 5+ years of customer-facing experience consulting on enterprise-class applications
• 5+ years performing capacity planning, performance analysis and development of data disaster recovery plans
• 5+ years with Cisco UCS platforms
• Certification or in-depth experience in Cisco UCS management
• Knowledge of Hitachi block and object storage systems is desirable
• Experience with applications and databases desirable
• Experience in operating systems administration across UNIX and Windows required.
• In-depth experience in virtual platform technology e.g. VMware
• Experience and knowledge of IP Networking, Routing and Switching Technologies is desirable
• Good knowledge of ITIL and working within a managed services framework
