Job PurposeThe role of the Managed Services (MS) Technical Consultant - Fabric resides in the functional area of Post-sales services as part of our highly experienced Managed Service team. Specifically the role provides technical and operational support services across the client's enterprise storage and Fabric technologies. These platforms include Hitachi Vantara block, object and file hardware and software products, as well as 3rd Party products such as VMware, CommVault, and Cisco solutions. This is delivered primarily from the customer site and various locations as required. The role at times is required to be involved in other non-operational tasks such as presales and project tasks; including but not limited to pre-requisite checklists, initial installation,
troubleshooting, implementation, customization, integration and "hands on" training of systems and staff that support Hitachi Vantara Customers.
The Technical Consultant - Fabric works closely with Project Management, Principal Consultants, Service Delivery Managers and other MS Technical Consultants and the customer to ensure a smooth implementation and transition from project kick-off through integration/testing/deployment to project close and ongoing operations and support.
For this position at Hitachi Vantara, in-depth knowledge of Cisco Fabric architecture, design and administration is required as this role will be the lead subject matter expert on backup platforms for the Managed Service. You will administer, configure, deploy and support effective Fabric solutions. You must be able to identify and troubleshoot problems in a multi-Fabric SAN environment. An in-depth knowledge of Cisco Fabric and VSAN in physical and virtualised environments is required.
Responsibilities• Demonstrated working proficiency in SAN Fabric management (ISLs, utilization, zoning, masking, etc.)
• Manage and administer SAN hardware and software for Cisco Fabric architectures
• Administer hardware components specifically focused on Hitachi, Cisco, and VMware
• Advanced skills: Familiar with all Hitachi storage systems and Commvault backup environments
• Interpret storage protocols including iSCSI, Fiber Channel, CIFS, NFS, NDMP protocols and hardware, which use these products
• Maintain current knowledge of storage and Fabric related trends and issues including current emerging technologies and best practices
• Provide capacity planning, performance analysis, disaster recovery planning, and lead efforts towards Fabric administration and modernisation
• Provide technical expertise, guidance and strategic recommendations to develop a roadmap that ensures that the current and planned Fabric solutions are compatible with the company's business needs and strategic objectives
• Develop, implement and oversee policies and procedures to ensure consistent Fabric provisioning, uptime, and regulatory compliance
• Willingness to manage a 24x7 Fabric, storage, compute and backup environment including on-call rotation, weekend work, etc
• Extensive experience in design and documentation of Fabric topologies
• Supporting Fabric and storage in a VMware virtualization environment
• Manage and provide current Fabric usage statistics, provide future projected growth estimates
• Ability to plan, document and effectively implement projects and systems
• Demonstrated ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment with many deadlines and competing priorities
• Some knowledge and experience desirable with storage, Data Replication, Snap Shots and Virtualization Technology
• Knowledge of Networking, Routing and Switching Technologies
• Some knowledge desirable of Windows Server Administration
Qualifications:• 5+ years of customer-facing experience of managing Cisco Fabric hardware and software platforms
• 5+ years performing Fabric capacity planning, performance analysis and development of business recovery plans including regular testing
• 5+ years with Cisco Fabric software
• Certification or in-depth experience in Cisco Fabric management
• Experience in operating systems administration across UNIX and Windows is desirable
• Experience in virtual platform technology e.g. VMWare is desirable
• Experience and knowledge of IP Networking, Routing and Switching Technologies is desirable
• Good knowledge of ITIL and working within a managed services framework
• Knowledge of Hitachi block and object storage systems is desirable
