Job Summary:

xEV traction motor is the propulsion center for battery electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles. Hitachi is the industry leader in this area.

As a member of the Hitachi xEV Motor Design Engineering, the primary responsibility of this position is to design, plan, and coordinate product development of xEV motor. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage Design Engineering team performance and development programs.
  • Coordinate with global Motor Design Engineering organizations in engineering activities of xEV traction motors: original design, design change management, validation, production launch and problem troubleshooting.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, internal and external contacts to achieve project deliverables.  Facilitate accurate & timely motor program technical communication.
  • Lead design change development and implementation.
  • Conduct failure mode analysis and troubleshooting in motor product life cycle.
  • Review and approve 3D CAD models, 2D manufacturing drawings and various technical/managerial documents for motor and its components. 
  • Document, analyze and communicate various types of technical data / information using industry standard software (e.g. Microsoft Office, Solidworks).
  • Support internal motor manufacturing sites for various engineering duties during development and mass production timing.
  • Support various types of cost management and improvement activities.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The qualified candidate is required to:

  • Have demonstrated success in project leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrate fluent English communication, strong initiative / motivation and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to accurately analyze / communicate various types of data & information.
  • Have experience with traction motor DFMEA or DRBFM (Design Review Based on Failure Mode).
  • Have successful experience in motor development programs, problem troubleshooting, and design change implementation.
  • When public health situation permits, capable to travel occasionally as needed to international and domestic destinations to support motor program objectives.

Education:  Possess at min. a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.

Experience:  At least 10 years of prior experience in automotive or similar industry.  And at least 5 years practical work experience with electric motors.

Working conditions:

Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Carrying equipment up and down stairs.  Occasional overtime will be required.

Travel: Some domestic and International travel may be required up to 20%. Must have a valid driver’s license.
