We are currently seeking an experienced technical sales professional to contribute to our Power Grids division as a Business Development Manager.  This person will lead sales & marketing efforts for our Generator Circuit Breaker solutions.  This position will be based out of our office in Princeton, NJ.

This person will develop North American business involving such aspects as commercial agreements, proposal development, pricing development, risk assessment and sales strategies.  This person will ensure that firm bids (and orders received) are at acceptable profit levels.  This person will also initiate actions to resolve complex problems and foster / implement measures to achieve cost savings, and ensure customer satisfaction.

Typical duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Identify and pursue new Generator Circuit Breaker project opportunities utilizing Hitachi Energy (HE)'s resources and experience base in Greenfield projects and Existing Power Plant projects.
  • Participate in planning efforts with other HE Sales and Business Development Managers, as well as feeder factories and suppliers.
  • Establish and maintain close ties with customers and planning skills support groups.
  • Evaluate market conditions, prepare sales plans & forecasts, and develop cost-effective business strategies to achieve objectives.
  • Manage the preparation of proposals and determine the appropriate technical & contractual approach to be consistent with the organization's objectives.
  • Develop action plans for customers and facilitate plan implementation by participating business units, business areas, and sales teams.
  • Establish business/market segment strategies to achieve growth/profitability objectives and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Provide market feedback; organize and lead project teams consisting of various support groups to respond effectively to unique business opportunities, and take advantage of unusual situations in the marketplace.
  • Determine commercial viability of products and resources required.
  • Negotiate commercial features and arrangements with potential business partners, customers, and internal groups while effectively representing the organization.
  • Additional duties may be assigned, as required.

COMPLEXITY OF TASKS:

  • Requires strong communication skills to influence managers and negotiate with customers.
  • Requires in-depth understanding of corporate and business unit technical and commercial strengths, interrelationships with markets and ability to resolve complex problems.
  • Requires strategic planning skills and ability to translate corporate and business unit goals and objectives into realistic marketing and sales plans.
  • Foreign travel and availability for communications in any time zone may be necessary on occasion.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associate degree with additional 5 years of industry experience
  • 5 years of professional experience with power products.
  • Prefer to have professional experience sales and/or marketing of power products.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related disciplines (e.g. BSEE, etc.).
  • Experience working with Power plant or High Voltage substation and/or related products.
  • Recent experience with sales, marketing, and/or business development.
  • Previous experience working with substation, utilities, and/or EPC clients for power-related projects.
  • Ability to use various marketing resources and data mining tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English – this role requires strong communication skills to influence managers and negotiate with customers.
  • Requires in-depth understanding of corporate and business unit technical and commercial strengths, interrelationships with markets, and ability to resolve complex problems.
  • Requires strategic planning skills and ability to translate corporate / business unit goals & objectives into realistic marketing and sales plans.
  • Ability to travel for business, as required - foreign travel and availability for communications in any time zone may be necessary on occasion.
