General information:

The Lead Engineer will work closely and coordinate with customers, Tendering & Project Team, Operating Unit, Project Manager, Supply Chain Manager, Engineering Manager, Engineering Leads, Secondary and civil / steel design functions, consultants, end customers etc. and provide required support to lead the Project / Tender in the offshore substation projects.

Your responsibilities:

  • You will design authority and technical lead for all engineering activities for assignments on projects classified as Low and Medium engineering complexity also support Project Manager for any technical issues. You will support Project Manager for the complete Engineering activities of the project, participate in customer meetings, act on customer needs, expectations and improve customer experience.

  • You will lead, supervise and coordinate engineering project team: scope, schedule & progress, approvals, budget, targets, resource load & cost-to-complete [Engineering Meetings / Engineering Review]. You will ensure Engineering processes are applied and if needed agree on scaling with Engineering Manager, conduct Engineering Project Reviews and report progress and cost-to-complete to Engineering- and Project Manager.

  • You will establish contacts with suppliers for technical support, to improve material quality and/or to decrease costs, ensure the deliveries as per schedule and carry out regular reviews.

  • You will be having Primary / Secondary design expertise and able to deliver transmission and distribution projects, following best practices and focus on continuous improvements both technically and functionally.

  • You will review the quality of deliverables by all contributing engineering parties, track and handle technical issues and follow up, handle clarification where more than one domain/function/party is concerned plus those topics that cannot be allocated to an engineering domain, initiate mitigation of possible responsibility gaps in the project team.

  • You will identify, track, clarify & drive project change cases that relate to engineering scope, support claim preparation (client & supplier), initiate and drive corrective actions, collect and consolidate project risks and opportunities from engineering team, technical, but as well related to engineering progress, information/data availability and assumptions taken.

  • You will define, coordinate & take proactive actions to mitigate risks and lead to opportunities, follow-up, take calculated risk in pursuit of results and speed. You will coach and develop project engineers / designers to deliver their maximum potential, plan the skill development needs for the engineers, engineering authority for projects with low to medium complexity. You will complete assignments on small, medium and large projects cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications and quality standards.

Your background:

  • Bachelor's engineering or equivalent required.

  • to 15 years of experience in Substation Engineering (Gas Insulated).

  • Knowledge of Offshore Substations and relevant experience, primary equipment, such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, instrument transformers, power transformers, etc, HV grid power system, SG local Standards and International standards- IEEE, IEC etc., substation tendering and project lead engineering activities (technical & commercial).

  • HV & MV substation engineering understanding and experience preferred.

  • Good understanding of secondary design aspects of substations, such as CT VT Sizing, interfaces to HV and MV cable systems, of civil and structural design elements of substations, such transformer bunds, cable troughs, ducts, support structures, substation access roads, etc.

  • Cable sizing, Protection & Control schemes, LVAC / LVDC supplies, Interlocking, Telecommunication, etc is an added advantage.

  • Prepare, review and validate Bill of material for tenders or projects based on requirement, know-how on electrical design calculations related to Substation, grounding system design, drawings, and Bill of Materials, lightning system design, drawings, and Bill of Materials.

  • Selection of primary equipment such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, instrument transformers, power transformers and finalizing the technical specification in line with project requirements, providing Optimized and Customized solutions for various substation tenders.

  • Vendor Offer Evaluations.  FAT / SAT of Substation Equipment, System as and when needed, technical risk and opportunity assessment and validation, estimation of engineering effort for each project for costing at tender stage, innovative ideas to reduce Engineering effort.

  • Awareness in required CAD design tool (Autodesk Revit, 3D competence preferred), proficiency in required Engineering calculation tools.
