Hitachi Energy is seeking a Senior Power System and Optimization Engineer for its Krakow location. This role is responsible for delivering innovative solutions in the areas of mathematical modelling and optimiza-tion (linear and non-linear programming) and numerical methods, applied to electrical bulk power systems and electricity markets.
Reporting to Anders Bjorkman, you will work in a collaborative environment.
Your responsibilities:
Analyze and understand engineering, business, and software requirements, propose technically feasible solutions with estimates for the required effort.
Research, design, develop, test, integrate and document power system network and optimization applica-tions, while following best engineering and software development practices.
Support software product releases and assist application users with expert knowledge, problem analysis, troubleshooting and resolution of defects as required to bringing issues to closure.
Actively research and further their own knowledge in mathematical modelling, optimization, market opera-tion, power system analysis, and improve software development practices and documentation.
Provide expertise and represent the company in internal and external discussions with internal stakehold-ers, in customer meetings and industry gatherings.
Your background:
Ph.D. degree with 1 year of relevant experience or Master's degree with a minimum 3 years of relevant ex-perience.
Demonstrated programming skills in high performance, high programming level languages such as C/C++ or FORTRAN. Experience with Linux-based systems.
Experience with mathematical modelling tools such as AMPL, optimization solvers (e.g., CPLEX, Gurobi) and MATLAB.
Proficient English written and oral communication skills.
Formal classroom education in Power Systems and Optimization.
Desired Experience:
Development of power system and electricity market applications.
Structures and databases, multi-threading, high performance, memory intensive analytical applications.
