Typical accountabilities of BIM Coordinator/Manager as per international rules and best practices in the rail context. Here below a summary of the main ones.

BIM MANAGEMENT ACTIVITY

Responsible of BIM Execution Plan preparation and update during the Project life. Responsible for Common Data Environment requirements definition and implementation in accordance with the Project delivery process. Responsible for ownership and authority for NSCR’s BIM model, and responsible for the NSCR’s BIM/CAD deliverables. Manage the BIM Design and Construction processes such that the highest quality of deliverables is submitted by consultants, supplier and/or subcontractors for project team reviews. Responsible for ensuring that there is a consistent approach to assets’ 3D modelling and the incorporating of the assets’ non-graphical data across the project, through utilizing of consistent and appropriate technologies. Develop a scope of services for the designers for BIM requirements. Develop a scope of services for prime and trade subcontractors for BIM requirements. Facilitate project kick-off meetings and follow-up activities. Ensure that the Team attends progress meetings with the Contracting Authority to review progress on execution to the BEP and MIDP. Participate in BIM coordination meetings with project team, planners, engineers, designers, suppliers and sub- contractors. Follow up Design coordination issues through interface checking. Review with the BIM coordinators- the BIM documentation files (schedules and drawing sheets), model checkers, design clash detection, visual checks and QAQC checklists. Define and monitor a quality control program. Ensure that the as-built model has the required data attached to it for the future operations and maintenance Work as part of a project team to achieve consistent results. Share BIM review meetings/workshops with the relevant stakeholders. Assist procurement team in tender development i.e., BIM capability assessment, execution plan, models, registers, service agreements and appointments. Identify and assist in creating content to enhance digital asset and detail libraries. Leverage data collection for purposes of design intelligence and optimization. Ensure disciplines are sharing information through a controlled, ISO19650 compliant CDE and using each-others’ information effectively in a BIM environment. Support IT to manage inventory of BIM software, licenses, and systems. Confirm supplier ability to deliver information requirements. Ensure compliance to all Safety and Security procedures related to his scope of work. Ensure the BIM Execution Plan is compliant, up-to-date, communicated and implemented within the Project

BIM COORDINATION ACTIVITY

Production and control of federated models. Model setup - ensuring the discipline models are suitable for inclusion into the federated models. Setup and maintain coordinate systems for import and export. Implement the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Procedures. Combine or link shared models. Data maintenance within models. Identify model coordination issues. Participate in coordination meetings. Verify model Level of Information. Coordinate with the project planning manager for creating a 4D simulation Coordinate with Project Management Team for 5D simulation Coordinate with Operation and Maintenance team for 6D asset management implementation Coordinate and collaborate with the Project Management. Ensure the application of quality procedures for the emissions of the documents at every stage of the design; Ensure there are no risks not assessed with respect to the safety of the works designed and compared to budgeted costs; Ensure the verification of  the interfaces alignment and that each step is managed and properly addressed; Ensure the identification of critical issues in the development of the project and propose mitigation actions; The use of BIM for interfaces definition and management, as part of the project delivery strategy according to the Engineering Management Plan.

Required Skills/ Knowledge

At last 10 year operative competence and experience of BIM management/coordination in railway context in accordance with ISO 19650 and railway engineering expertise especially developed in the area of Civil works and Systems Design/Commissioning and Requirement/Interface management. Additional expertise in the railways contexts is considered as a plus.
