Mission statement:

You will be working within HVDC valve development mechanical team (UVM) as thesis work, develop a shielding part for new technology. The present shielding is made from extruded profile aluminium and considered change to sheet metal like carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminium. Forming the thin sheet plate to certain form in 3D is challenge. The knowledge applied on manufacture of body structure in automobile industry can be referenced. Design of features to ensure the thin plate have good surface stiffness, no local deformation should be evaluated. The updated design should meet with function request meantime with 50% cost saving target.

Your responsibilities:

  • You will investigate the manufacture feasibility of 3D metal sheet, identify the technical challenge, and find the solution by cooperate with supplier.
  • Thesis work includes interacting or benchmark with car industry or similar industries that work with 3d forming of sheet metal, comparation of different materials.
  • You will do IP check for similar solution.
  • You will be contacting with potential supplier with the support of SCM.
  • You will define the manufacture process of press forming, summarize the cost based on quotation feedback.
  • You will be involved in FEM simulation of part strength/stiffness to define the weakness of component is part of the thesis work.
  • You will design optimization to meet with shielding function, manufacture, and cost request.

Your background:

  • Studying in final year of master program in Engineering.
  • Open minded and driven.
  • Interest in 3D forming of sheet metal, FEM simulation or other similar topics.
