What you’ll be doing
The data science and analytics team is at the core of Hitachi ZeroCarbon as a data-driven business. Our work spans both the commercial and innovation project streams in the business. Our core objectives are to increase the value proposition of our product offerings and extract insights from our large-scale innovation projects. The data science team sits within the Product function so you will be working with data engineers, software developers, business analysts and technical architects.

Reporting directly to the Chief Data Scientist, your responsibilities will include:
Extracting insights from data gathered from a wide variety of sources with a focus on delivering value to our customers via our product and service offering
Developing forecasting and optimisation models to enable smart energy and power management
Report and present research findings and developments including status and results clearly and efficiently both internally and externally, verbally and in writing.
Coordinate work with Business Analysts on other project work-streams to ensure we operate as ‘One Hitachi’ and exceed our customer expectations
Adoption of coding standards and participation in peer code reviews
Work closely with the wider product team to ensure overall quality of the delivered trials and technology
Write and maintain project documentation and specifications
Work with external collaborators and maintain relationships with key individuals as appropriate.
What you bring to the team
We’re looking for a team player, who is motivated by delivering great work and the Hitachi vision. The role will be a mixture of remote-hybrid work with 2 days/week working at Hitachi Office (Broadgate Tower, 20 Primrose Street, EC2A 2EW)
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and background:
2+ years experience developing machine learning and/or optimisation models applied to real-world data in industry
MSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, or equivalent fields.
Fluency in Python including developing code and releasing to a production environment
A solid grounding in SQL
Good understanding of software engineering best practices
Strong mathematical background (linear algebra, calculus, probability, and statistics)
Smart, motivated, can-do attitude, and seeks to make a difference
A self-starter who can find solutions to technical challenges through research and experimentation.
Ability to communicate deliverables to a non-technical audience
Familiar with version control
Desirable
Experience with time series forecasting algorithms
Experience formulating
Experienced working with cloud services (e.g. Azure)
Experience writing SQL queries with a strong focus on efficiency for ETL applications
Experience with CI/CD pipelines
Proficiency using Spark
Energy management or electric vehicle domain knowledge
