As a scientist in the global Hitachi Energy Research organization, you will propose and lead cutting edge research projects to push the boundaries of knowledge and technology for Hitachi Energy's future products and services.
We are looking for a research scientist with expertise in Power System Operation for our research center in Montreal/CA.
Propose, contribute to and lead R&D projects in power system operation and related fields.
Collaborate with a global team of researchers and engineers in Hitachi Energy business units to identify and solve real-world challenges for our customers.
Serve as the power systems expert in interdisciplinary teams including machine learning, cybersecurity, human-technology interaction, etc.
Propose and work on novel ideas and concepts for power system control at timescales ranging from 1-second to intra-day, for the next stages of the energy transition.
Network in the company and actively distribute your knowledge and expertise.
Collaborate with local and global external partners including universities, open-source communities, startups and vendors.
Disseminate your results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports.
Ph.D. degree in the area of Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Systems or a related field, or Masters in same plus comparable industrial experience.
Deep understanding of power system dynamics and associated control mechanisms.
Experience with one or more control technologies like SCADA, EMS, or substation automation is highly desired.
Experience implementing and evaluating early-stage control concepts (e.g. simulation) is highly desired.
Proficiency in a commonly used power system simulation platform like PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD, MATLAB etc. is preferred.
Fluency in common programming languages like Python or C++ preferred.
Experience with control room operations or techno-economic analysis would be beneficial.
Knowledge of microservice architecture and utility communication protocols would be beneficial.
Excellent leadership and communication skills, team player attitude, initiative and creativity.
Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
