In Hitachi Energy Research, we perform cutting-edge research and look at various aspects of seamlessly integrating renewable energy resources. In this context, we are looking for an intern to explore new approaches for enhancing power grid flexibility and facilitating renewables proliferation. You will join a dynamic, motivated and creative team with a broad range of experience and competences. Your responsibilities  

  • Acquire knowledge, survey and summarize state-of-the-art literature on steady-state operation of power grids

  • Model and analyze steady-state operation of grids with traditional and emerging technologies

  • Design and implement new approaches for power flow analysis using state-of-the-art techniques, and benchmark them against modern open-source tools

  • Disseminate knowledge including presentation and interpretation of results

  • Self-driven execution of challenging tasks under a stimulating supervision

Your background

  • Currently pursuing a MSc degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field – official enrollment is essential

  • Background in one of the following topics: (1) steady-state analysis and modeling of power grids (e.g., power flow, optimal power flow, state estimation) and/or (2) numerical methods and mathematical optimization

  • Profound knowledge of and experience in Matlab and/or Python; familiarity with C/C++ is an advantage

  • Experience that demonstrates your team-oriented working style.

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
