Hitachi Rail have a superb opportunity for experienced Lead Technicians to join our Neville Hill Outstations team. As the Lead Technician, you will hold responsibility of servicing, complex fault finding and repairs on Hitachi Rail rolling stock assets, previous experience working with the Class AT300 fleet would be a huge advantage.

You will be joining a small but critical team within our business and therefore, on occasion, there will be elements of lone working. As part of the Lead Technician team, you will be responsible for carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance activities on a regular 24/7 shift basis so the ability and willingness to work both days, nights and some weekends is essential. As the position is a Safety Critical role within our business, we ask for health & safety and the welfare of our employees the successful candidate must live within 1 hours travel from the Neville Hill depot.

About you…

Applicants should be able to demonstrate all of the essential requirements listed below:

Essential - Experience / Licences / Competences

  • Previous experience working in a similar role
  • Experience of working with high voltage electrics
  • Valid UK Driving Licence
  • Live within an hours travel of our Neville Hill depot (due to HSE reasons)
  • Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations (Rail, HR)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Competent using Microsoft programmes including Work, Excel and Outlook etc.
  • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times
  • Good team worker

Essential - Experience / Licences / Competences

  • Previous experience working within the Rail sector with be an strong advantage
  • M & E HNC or served apprenticeship with mechanical, electrical disciplines
  • Engineering based NVQ level 3
  • Network Rail Sentinel PTS certification
  • Stock-Specific maintenance and faulting experience
  • Designated Person qualification or equivalent
  • Working at Height certification
  • Manual Handling certification
  • Crimping competence & assessment qualification

Role responsibilities include…

  • Maintain the condition of the work site, materials and equipment
  • Adhere to health, safety, environmental & quality practices in the workplace
  • Prepare for and undertake planned and unplanned maintenance activities
  • Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications by the use of engineering processes and techniques
  • Read and extract information from traction and rolling stock drawings and specifications
  • Prepare for and undertake the removal and replacement of traction and rolling stock components
  • Modify or manufacture traction and rolling stock components by material removal using hand tools
  • Assemble traction and rolling stock components using engineering processes and techniques
  • Install new traction and rolling stock components using engineering processes and techniques
  • Identify, assess and rectify defects and discrepancies on Hitachi rolling stock assets
  • Identify repeat defects on Hitachi rolling stock assets and suggest / carry out repairs
  • Create technical scopes of work for fault rectification by other members of staff
  • Support reliability technicians with regards reliability improvements to rolling stock assets
  • Attend and provide technical support with failures in service when on duty
  • Provide operational support to users of Hitachi rolling stock assets
  • Keep SAP record system up to date with clear and concise information of work carried out.
  • Develop professionally and support good working relationships
  • Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi’s new business demands as required
  • Liaison with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post
  • Assist as required
