What you’ll be doing

Hitachi ZeroCarbon has multiple programmes and projects in the pipeline that need to be delivered and managed across our decarbonisation business for fleet and commercial transport, including energy management.

The Programme Manager sits in the Operations Team and reports to the Head of Operations.   Responsible for implementing measurement, control and reporting processes that successfully deliver funded and commercial projects to time, budget and quality while supporting growth of the portfolio businesses within the group, ensuring they are aligned with Hitachi ZeroCarbon’s (HZC) business growth strategy and commercial propositions within Hitachi. Whilst the initial focus for this role will be to manage the First Bus depot decarbonisation programme, it is expected that the Programme Manager will also progress to manage a wider portfolio as the business grows.

  • Leads and manages decarbonisation programmes which have high levels of execution complexity and significant strategic value to HZC

    Setup and run a programme governance function with a framework to manage projects and workstreams; key features of the function are effective:

  • Scope, budget and programme plan management

  • Risks, issues and mitigation processes

  • Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation across the business; working with HZC colleagues to improve operational efficiencies and scale delivery within the UK and internationally.

Proactively manage internal, partner and external stakeholders to deliver the First Bus Programme (and other future Programmes) to client satisfaction, including:

  • Budgetary management Customer relationship management Delivery partner contracts and strategic alignment Customer success stories, case studies and public relations Supporting the development and commercialisation of new business opportunities arising from the programme.

  • Create a culture and working environment that motivates and inspires project teams:

  • Managing team members and project managers so they have clear objectives, linked to a strategy and vision that inspires belief and commitment to successful delivery.

Governance structures that balance internal and external input through Stage Gate controls Reporting to multiple and diverse stakeholders, in collaboration with regular business reporting mechanisms Working closely with other project teams/functions within Hitachi ZeroCarbon Communications management throughout programme activities including coordination with ZeroCarbon communications, HEU public affairs and external media.

What you bring to the team

We’re looking for a team player, who is motivated by delivering great work and the Hitachi vision. The role will be a mixture of remote-hybrid work with 2-3 days/week working at Hitachi Office (Broadgate Tower, 20 Primrose Street, EC2A 2EW)

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and background:

  • Able to develop strong relationships and manage senior stakeholders (internal and external)

  • Demonstrates exemplary leadership attributes that provide role modelling for others

  • Able to build consensus and work collaboratively to achieve programme and business outcomes

  • Project or programme management qualification will be an advantage (e.g., Prince 2, MSP, APM)

  • Good industry understanding of energy and mobility, with experience working at the intersection of renewables, storage, transport, charging and logistics sectors

  • Ability to problem solve at speed while keeping all constraints, risks, KPIs and strategic imperatives under effective management

  • Experience of managing complex projects

  • Proven results from delivery of government funded innovation projects and commercial projects

  • Proven ability to manage programmes
