Description

Our R&D engineers develop the next-generation technologies in power electronics converters, which supply railways with electricity, drive turbines and pumps in Pumped Hydro Storage Plants, and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid. As a power electronic engineer, you will work in our global R&D organization on maintaining our current platforms and development projects critical to Hitachi Energy needs.

Our team is part of Hitachi Energy’s Technology and Solutions Development (T&SD) organization, in Turgi (Switzerland) and Krakow (Poland) and is responsible for the development of semiconductor-based medium voltage converter platforms. We develop converter platforms for applications like Static Frequency Converters, STATCOM or Pumped Hydro Storage. For our team in Turgi, we're looking for a hands-on engineer who brings fresh ideas to make the power grid greener and smarter as we continue to push the technology forward.

Your responsibilities

  • Build up and maintain measurement test setups to verify performance, efficiency and robustness.

  • Support a fast, iterative design process in a cross-functional, dedicated team. Use fast prototyping and lab mockups to close learning loops and achieve results quickly.

  • Working in laboratories; bringing up prototypes; evaluating design limits and driving component selection and qualification

  • Contribute to solving technical challenges related with EMC/EMI, thermal management & safety.

  • Driving field failure investigations and root cause analysis on current platform products

  • Driving design to value activities and improvement activities on current platform products.

Your background

  • You are curious and interested in sustainability and the ongoing energy transition and want to work on cutting edge technologies to solve one of the biggest challenges for humanity today.

  • You are a natural team player and enjoy collaborating with others, have a solution-oriented approach, and strong communication skills.

  • BSc/MSc degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering and related work experience

  • Experience with working with laboratory equipment and converter prototyping and testing

  • Experience with power electronic converters/power supplies development process is a plus.

  • Experience with specification, selection and qualification of power devices, and passive components like capacitors and filter components

  • Understanding of control theory for Power Electronics applications

  • Strong commitment to safe work practices and dedication to following all relevant workplace safety guidelines.

  • As you will be part of a global business, fluency in written and spoken English is required.
