Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior R&D Electrical Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will lead and contribute to cutting-edge R&D projects for our diverse HV component portfolio such as capacitors and power quality components, surge arresters, instrument transformers, disconnectors and cable accessories, and contribute to our future reliable and sustainable power grid.

Your technical expertise will be crucial in elaborating innovative product solutions, ensuring they adhere to industry standards, design rules, and internal processes. You will also play a pivotal role in maintaining the quality of suppliers and parts, collaborating closely with various departments within Hitachi Energy, including R&D Centers, Product Management, Quality, Supply Chain Management, Operations, and Sales.

  • Lead and contribute to research and product development projects

  • Apply simulation method to drive and accelerate the development of future HV components globally

  • Define critical design guidelines and test criteria for our products and ensure compliance with latest standards, rules and internal processes

  • Support tasks related to root causes analyses and failure modes in HV components - backed with simulation results

  • Collaborate effectively with global Hitachi Energy functions, including R&D Centers, Product Management, Quality, Supply Chain Management, Operations, and Sales

  • Write tutorials, guidelines, test procedures, and reports to document findings and progress


  • Minimum master’s degree in electrical engineering or physics

  • Expertise in high voltage engineering and simulation tools, particularly COMSOL, as well as 2D and 3D electromagnetic FEM calculations

  • Thermal modelling competence is a plus

  • Knowledge of electrical testing principles

  • Experience in HV components is desirable but not mandatory

  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills

  • Openness to new challenges and a keen interest in learning and professional development

  • Fluency in English; basic German skills are preferred, or a willingness to learn German
