What you’ll be doing

We are looking for a BI Developer that can build user-focused solutions that empower our customers and internal stakeholders in making data-driven decisions that deliver value. The role sits within the data science and analytics team but works closely with our operations team also. We are looking for an independent thinker who take responsibility for developing, deploying, and maintaining our suite of business intelligence products.

The data science and analytics team are at the core of Hitachi ZeroCarbon as a data-driven business. Our work spans both the commercial and innovation project streams in the business. Our core objectives are to increase the value proposition of our product offerings and extract insights from our large-scale innovation projects. The data science team sits within the Product function so you will be working with data scientists, data engineers, software developers, business analysts and technical architects.

Reporting directly to the Chief Data Scientist, your responsibilities will include:

  • Extract insights from data gathered from a wide variety of sources with a focus on delivering value to our customers via our BI product offering

  • Develop, deploy and maintain business intelligence solutions and reports utilising SQL and Power BI

  • Design and maintain KPI dashboards

  • Managing release cycles and versioning of product updates

  • Provide ad-hoc reports and data exports from our multiple data sources

  • Evaluate and improve our current reporting systems

  • Create visually appealing and user-friendly Power BI reports and dashboards

  • Conduct thorough testing of Power BI reports to ensure accuracy and reliability

  • Work closely with the wider product team to ensure overall quality of the delivered services and solutions

  • Write and maintain project documentation

  • Work with external collaborators and maintain relationships with key individuals as appropriate

What you bring to the team

We’re looking for a team player, who is motivated by delivering great work and the Hitachi vision. The role will be a mixture of remote-hybrid work with 2 days/week working at Hitachi Office (Broadgate Tower, 20 Primrose Street, EC2A 2EW)

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and background:

  • 3 - 7 years proven experience as a BI Developer or Data Analyst with a strong portfolio of Power BI projects working at scale

  • Fluency in SQL

  • Experience writing SQL queries with a strong focus on efficiency for ETL applications

  • Good understanding of efficient data handling workflows

  • Demonstrated experience wrangling large data sets, leading root cause analysis, and translating insights into decisions that have a direct business impact

  • Ability to communicate deliverables to a non-technical audience


  • Energy management or electric vehicle charging domain knowledge

  • Experience in human-centred design principles

  • Ability to process and transform data using Python

  • Experienced working with cloud services (e.g. Azure)
