Hitachi Energy Research, the growing research arm of Hitachi Energy, is strengthening its management organization and looking to hire a Global Head of Research Operations, who will be part of the global management team of Hitachi Energy Research and report directly to the Global Head of Research.

The position can be fully remote, based in Europe. Some travel is required.

Your responsibilities

  • Efficient and goal-oriented execution of the research portfolio, considering safety and globally distributed expertise.

  • Ensuring efficient execution processes, including reuse and sharing of results.

  • Driving operations-oriented activities and initiatives in Hitachi Energy Research.

  • Owning the portfolio in execution, acting as stage gate owner and making gate and budget decisions.

  • Ensuring definition of deliveries and quality metrics for each project.

  • Ensuring governance on projects and quality of deliverables together with line managers.

  • Coordinating project staffing for globally distributed execution.

  • Evaluating and approving business cases of projects.

  • Identifying and leveraging content synergies between projects.

  • Contributing to the definition of strategy, research portfolio and roadmaps, especially in the areas of your personal expertise.

  • Managing partner relationships, e.g. with universities.

  • Definition and maintenance of research processes and process descriptions.

  • Measuring and tracking research impact on the Hitachi Energy product portfolio.

  • Presenting research results to different audiences.

  • Taking topical global leadership responsibilities for Hitachi Energy Research, as required.

Your background

  • PhD in a relevant technical discipline.

  • Minimum 10 years related experience in R&D positions, preferably both in Research and Product Development.

  • Experience and track record in project management.

  • Exceptional analytical, management and leadership skills.

  • Experience in people leadership is beneficial.

  • Excellent written and spoken communication in English.

  • Global experience is beneficial.
