Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Senior Commissioning Manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment.  The successful candidate is comfortable managing and performing a wide range of test and commissioning related activities from strategic to administrative.  The position is a key role based in Chicago, IL.

Mission: Management of the test and commissioning phase of a large signaling project in accordance with the contract requirements.


Accountabilities:

  • Manage and plan the test and commissioning activities of a complex wayside signaling system.
  • Update as necessary a commissioning master plan and schedule based on an existing test matrix.
  • Review test plans, procedures and datasheets for correctness and completeness.
  • Integrate and develop a commissioning schedule with the client.
  • Implement locations specific cutover and migration plans.
  • Schedule local and remote resources and determine workload forecasts for commissioning activities.
  • Manage the workload and develop forecasts for commissioning activities.
  • Lead weekly Project Commissioning meetings and provide input for other project meetings.
  • Provide input in the Hazard Analyses of commissioning activities.
  • Conduct readiness review meetings to ensure pre-requisites, including approved/latest documentation, availability of supporting subsystems and personnel, are in place prior to the start of test activities.
  • Provide-value added input and assist the project manager in development of models and systems that maximizes resource efficiency.
  • During test execution, confirm compliance with local and company health and safety rules and procedures.
  • Responsible to ensure that test discrepancies, non-conformities, observations and issues are documented and reported.
  • Verify the test results are fully complete and prepared for submittal.
  • Manage use and suitability of test tools and equipment.
  • Maintain configuration control of hardware and software handed over for testing.
  • Help manage changes to the design and track closeout of related test activities.
  • Monitor and report progress of test activities and generate commissioning related  KPIs (for example:  planned vs. executed, passed vs. failed tests)
  • Prepare and submit bi-weekly reports detailing commissioning plan, delays and execution status.

Required Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Bachelor of Science or technical degree required preferably in electrical, or systems engineering.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in the design, commissioning, operations and maintenance of signaling systems of similar scope and complexity. 
  • Willing to take on multiple challenges within large-scale mass transit projects.
  • Able to read, understand and interpret signaling hardware circuit design drawings, schematics, cable plans and control line drawings.
  • Previous work in signaling transportation systems as a commissioning manager, design engineer, project engineer, system engineer/integrator a plus.

  
Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Certification or Technical Degree Required.

Languages:

  • English
