General Description

The candidate shall be able to manage the whole lifecycle of a project from a technical point of view, for the following areas:
  • Communication Systems (IP Networking, Network Security, PABX and VoIP, WLAN, TETRA, Structured Cabling, etc.)
  • Passenger Mobility Systems (Public Information Displays, Public Address Systems, Video Broadcasting Systems, etc.)
  • Security Systems (CCTV, Access Control Systems, Intrusion Detection Systems, Digital Video and Voice recording, Fire Protection Systems, etc.)
He/She will operate during both Bid and Project phase. As part of the Bid / Tender stage, system engineer will analyze contractual and system requirements, derive subsystem requirements and built the system architecture based on the outcome of such analysis. As part of the Project stage, in close coordination with the System Engineering Manager, the Project Manager and the other team members, He/She will be responsible for all the activities relevant to the assigned subsystem, ensuring the predefined results on time, within the budget and with the expected level of Quality.

Main activities

The Telecom System Engineer:
  • In the context of Engineering accountability, is responsible for all technical activities: identifying and analyzing the requirements (Contractual and System Requirements phase), defining the architecture, allocating the requirements to the system components, defining the interfaces between components, developing solutions (System Design and Development phases), integrating, verifying, validating and qualifying the system (System Integration and Acceptance phases)
  • Is responsible for the conformity with requirements, quality, performance, Customer satisfaction budget and schedule relevant to his Engineering work package
  • Proposes the technical solution
  • Ensures requirements management and their allocation to subsystems/components
  • Plans and oversees configuration management activities and solution integrity with the Configuration Manager
  • Supports deployment/installation and site acceptance activities
  • Ensures coordination and communication among the various players in technical activities and a smooth transition of responsibility to "Installation and Commissioning" organization
  • Is the main technical interface for the Customer Counterpart for his subsystems
  • Coordinates with his technical Customer Counterpart according to Contractual requirement
  • Participates to Project Meetings (internal and external: with the Customer, Hitachi Rail subcontractors and other entities) when scheduled and/or requested.
  • Compiles reports concerning his role and responsibilities according to internal reporting procedure.
  • Drafts official letters and correspondence to be sent to the Customer.
  • Coordinates and controls of the different Vendors / Manufacturers, Suppliers and Subcontractors
  • Correctly applies Quality procedures and HSE procedures and instruction
  • Properly deals with other Contractors to manage external interfaces with the Interface Manager
  • Allocates and co-ordinates human and physical resources in his team (if any)
  • Continually reviews the technical Scope of Work and keeps updated the scope baseline informing constantly the PM, the Contract Manager and the System Engineering Manager
  • Proposes variation requests to SEM for submitting to the Customer
  • Assists the PM/SEM, the Contract Manager and the Sales department in the technical negotiation of the change proposals
  • Supports the Contract Manager in preparing the Claim Files (towards Vendors, Subcontracts and Customer)
  • Supports and contributes to technical bid activities
  • Contributes to the preparation of the list of deliverables
  • Defines acceptance procedure principles and Integration, Verification, Validation, Qualification, Acceptance Plan with the help of Integration Manager and the approval of the SEM
  • Coordinates with Purchasing Department for the technical content of RFQ, for Offers evaluation and Suppliers selection
  • Supports the Purchasing Department in the definition of subcontracts and standard clauses to be inserted in the Sub Contract Agreement and in the Purchase Orders
Skills and experience

Telecom System Engineer with a professional experience (min. 4 years) in the technical management of Telecom Subsystems relevant to complex integrated programs/projects in Transportation Domain (Railways, Metro, Tramways, Tunnels, Urban Security, etc.).

Telecom System Engineer role requires technical knowledge of all the main technologies and subsystems used to implement IT, Telecom and Security services, of the way in which these subsystems are integrated and the relevant operational scenarios.

Main skills/expertise requested by the candidate to successfully cover the role are:

For Telecommunication Networks / IT Infrastructures:

- Design, Integration of complex multiservice (data / video / voice) wired telecommunication networks (Gigabit Ethernet, MPLS, SDH, etc...), IP backbones and protocols (LACP, RSTP, OSPF, VLAN, etc...)

- Design, Integration of wireless telecommunication networks (Wi-Fi, TETRA, GSM-R, etc...)

For Security Systems, Passenger Information Systems (Wayside, On Board):

- Design, Integration of CCTV, Intrusion Detection Systems (EN 50131), Access Control Systems, Fire & Smoke Detection Systems (EN 54 and UL/FM)

- Design, Integration of VoIP Telephone, Intercom and Emergency Call Systems

- Design, Integration of Public Announcement / General Alarm Systems (PAGA), Voice Evacuation Systems (EVAC) (IEC 60849 / EN 54-16)

- Design, Integration of Multimedia / Passenger Information Display Systems (PIS)

EMI/EMC Standards, Railway Standards:

- Knowledge of main EMI/EMC international standards (IEC 61000, EN 50121...)

- Knowledge of RFI standards for Tunnel Security applications (TT528, TT597...)

- Knowledge of main Rolling Stock standards (EN 50155, EN 50121-3-2, EN61373, IEC61375)

Design and Integration of LV/MV Power Supply Systems (UPS, AC/DC, LFM, etc...)

Knowledge of RFI standards for Tunnel Security applications

The candidate must have developed through his/her professional experience the capability of managing relationships with other departments, Customers and Suppliers.

Fluent English is mandatory. The knowledge of French is appreciated.
