Mission Statement:

Hitachi Energy Grid Automation Business has an opening for a Legal Counsel (Contractual) for Supply Business in India. This is a Legal Counsel will be part of Legal & integrity Team and will be reporting to Legal Counsel – Grid Automation, Transformers and High Voltage Business, who in turn reports to General Counsel and Company Secretary India. The General Counsel & Company Secretary is also Head of Legal for South Asia. You will be responsible for support to Grid Automation, High Voltage and Transformer Business for India, and will be based in Vadodara, Gujarat.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Drafting, reviewing, negotiating, interpreting and advising on legal documents in collaboration with the business to achieve the best commercial outcome whilst mitigating risk

  • Providing legal advice on a broad range of matters including contract law, real estate, litigation, transactions/anti-trust, compliance, intellectual property, employment/labor, corporate governance, ethics and others.

  • Developing close working relationships with Hitachi Energy India’s internal customers including commercial business teams and supply chain functions

  • Reviewing policies and other documents from vendors, customers and other third parties ensuring compliance with policies.

  • Researching, analyzing, and interpreting laws, statutes, and regulations.

  • Developing awareness of legal issues and their implications across all areas of the business.     

  • Advising on claims liability, legal rights and obligations and overseeing disputes and litigation matters

  • Supporting business units in managing contractual claims and Advise on the resolution of disputes or litigation through external advisors when necessary

  • Participating in and promote activities to ensure employees conduct business in compliance with the internal Hitachi Energy directives and applicable local laws.

  • Proactively developing effective legal strategies and practical solutions to address legal issues.

  • Support Corporate Legal and Compliance function responsible to avoid non-compliance.

  • Manage all legal matters relating to factory locations, as applicable

  • Monitor legal affairs, including but not limited to litigations and activity reports.

  • Drafting and review of Request for Quotations and input to Pre-Qualification Questionnaire, tender preparation, risks identification, risk review, negotiations of contracts, framework agreements, partnerships, settlements, etc. all in coordination with key internal stakeholders.

  • Planning and coordinating legal training for the business.

  • Facilitating the sharing of best practices and ensuring harmonized and standardized processes are applied across Hitachi Energy to deliver consistent and optimized support to the business.

  • Assisting with the implementation and the monitoring of integrity across Hitachi Energy and acting as a personal role-model in this regard.

Your Background:

  • Degree in Law from a leading university in India and qualified to practice law in India.

  • 4+ years of experience as in-house legal counsel or in legal practice relating to major utilities construction/ engineering projects in Asia with a successful track record of handling complex international corporate and commercial transactions as well as significant claims and litigations. 

  • Experience in working on large, complex, project contracts like major utilities construction/ engineering projects.

  • Knowledge of engineering/construction industry contracting practices, applicable government and commercial regulations and practices, working knowledge of FIDIC.

  • Demonstrable negotiating skills and expertise in drafting contractual and settlement agreements. Strong leadership, Business-minded and solution oriented. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills including team spirit as well as the ability to influence at all levels.

  • Practical mindset, self-motivated & proactive skills are must.

  • Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required.
