As an RAM Specialist, he will be working under the supervision of a senior/technical specialist and/or RAM Engineering Manager in performing RAM activities and work collaboratively with other design team members in making sure that RAM is built-in to the system design ensuring compliance to all contractual RAM requirements.

The RAM Specialist will be reporting to and be open to learning from a senior/technical specialist in understanding the application of RAM Engineering in CBTC system. The RAM Specialist will also be under the mentorship of more senior specialist in learning and performing RAM Engineering tasks and activities.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Analyzes and evaluates hardware designs to verify compliance with contractual Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) requirements.
  • Evaluates and identifies RAM problems and suggests design alternatives (i.e., redundancy, reliable components, preventive & corrective maintenance, diagnostic capabilities, etc.) where appropriate to enhance the RAM of the subsystem or system.
  • Prepares Reliability, Availability, Maintainability (RAM) Program Plan that defines the RAM objectives and tasks to be performed, and deliverables to be produced at various phases of the project.
  • Performs Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and/or Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) at subsystem and system level to identify all single failure points that are critical to operational success of the system.
  • Performs Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability apportionments to ensure hardware is being designed to meet contractual requirements.
  • Performs Spare Analysis and identify recommended spare parts list to support the system maintenance during warranty period.
  • Provides RAM calculated data to support Life Cycle Cost (LCC) analysis that will predict the total cost of utilizing the CBTC (Communications Based Train Control) system through its entire life span.
  • Performs MTBF calculations based on field returns to support Quality Assurance (Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) process) and participates in FRB meetings.
  • Evaluates the Reliability, Availability and Maintainability of designs and design changes for hardware by reviewing technical specifications, design & Engineering Change Control documentation.
  • Provides evaluations & recommendations with respect to Reliability, Availability and Maintainability in formal design reviews and by raising Change Requests (CRs) against any RAM issues.
  • Evaluates the Reliability of designs and design changes for hardware by reviewing technical specifications, design & Engineering Change Control documentation.
  • Reporting directly to the Manager of RAM Engineering, having direction from the RAM Senior or Technical Specialists and work closely with other team members, both inside the RAM team; and from other functional teams to meet the project objectives.
Key Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • Must have a basic knowledge in electronic components and circuits
  • Minimum 1-2 years relevant experience in system architecture for complex systems, application of RAMS concepts & analyses techniques.
  • Good command of the English language, both written and oral
  • Computer skills, MS Office; DOORS; ClearQuest, SAP are assets
  • Knowledge of railway systems is an asset
  • Knowledge of RAM principles and methodologies are assets
Preferred Qualifications:
  • (Optional) Member of Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO) or Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE)
