Description

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Rolling Stock System Engineer in Washington DC/Hagerstown, MD areas in support of our North American Vehicles projects, who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic.

As System Engineer the candidate will work alongside to Designer, Customers and Systems suppliers as well as Service and Manufacturing Engineers. The candidate must demonstrate passion for innovation and understanding of various engineering systems.

The rule requires to be technical representative to the Project Teams, Suppliers, Customers and any External Parties.

The Vehicle System Engineer shall be interface point with Customers on the technical design solution and resolve the design open points.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Understand vehicle system functions and analyze the diagnostic and maintenance data.
  • Defined system specification in compliance to Hitachi Rail standard and Customer Technical Specification.
  • Review and analysis of system technical specification.
  • Review definition of System Work breakdown structures and bill of material.
  • Internal technical design support, review and discussion within Engineering and Core team.
  • Day-to-day interface with Customer on the technical and finding solutions and align with the Design System Engineering Team.
  • Improve vehicle diagnostic system, maintenance and troubleshoot procedures.
  • Contributing to the assessment of the RAMS performance and to the upstream identification of the necessary RAMS requirements to ensure the achievement of the Project RAMS targets.
  • Support Design department to improve vehicle system design, functions, and integration.
  • Review the Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) of the systems during the commissioning and warranty periods.
  • Interface with Design, Service and Manufacturing Engineers in the analysis of the failure and research of root cause.
  • Understand if any gaps between different stakeholders’ deliverable from technical perspective and drive to conclusion to close the gaps.
  • Provide efficient support to Design Engineer to improve the product and its reliability.
  • Ensure the identification and analysis of non-conformities identified during validation.
  • Perform concurrent engineering design reviews and analysis to assure reliability and maintainability of product.
  • Adhere to company policies & procedures.
  • Maintain a positive rapport with the Clients in relation to the Corporate Customer Care Policy

Required Skills/Knowledge

The applicants should be able to demonstrate the experiences and skills listed below:

  • 2 years of experience in railway vehicle systems design or Vehicle maintenance engineer
  • Expert to interpret electrical drawing, pneumatic drawings, system specification software specification and mechanical drawings
  • Knowledge in Railway vehicle system functions
  • Knowledge to analyze and correlate data from different sources (e.i. vehicle diagnostic events, maintenance reports, etc)
  • Knowledge to define maintenance and troubleshooting procedures
  • Able to understand statistical analysis including RAMS.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Strong communication skills with English and Italian language proficiency.
  • Ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams and interface with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Time management skill; sense of priorities; structured and organized with hands-on approach.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data and to work with figures.
  • Solid judgement along with decision making skills.
  • Strong proactive capabilities.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.

In accordance with the DOT’s FRA and FTA programs, Hitachi’s substance screening program tests pre-employment candidates and current employees, as required for safety-sensitive positions.

The salary range for this position is $84,080 to $126,120 per year.  Final pay is determined by the candidate’s experience, skillset and ability level, internal equity and location.
