Hitachi Rail Honolulu JV (HRH) is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Track Repair Technician to work on our Honolulu Rail Project.  As the successful candidate your ideas for continuous improvement and creativity are welcome.  The position is based in Pearl City/Honolulu, HI.

Accountabilities:

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of the track, switch machines and third rail systems including the renewal, repair and replacement of worn or damaged components in compliance with approved maintenance procedures and work instructions
  • Perform daily track sweeps/walk-throughs, section by section, to visually check for track and third rail and related infrastructure defects 
  • Operate OTE equipment including engineering track maintenance vehicles in accordance with training and qualifications
  • Perform welding, frog welding, thermite welding, grinding, polishing, tamping in accordance with training and qualifications
  • Perform ultrasonic testing, geometry data collection, track inspection, track measurement in accordance with training and qualifications
  • Perform re-railing tasks and re-railing equipment maintenance in accordance with training and qualifications
  • Maintain and produce accurate maintenance records of track, third rail and related infrastructure, equipment performance, work accomplished, and other information using a computerized maintenance management system
  • Ensure that the corrective and preventative maintenance tasks are executed in compliance with the company safety policy and local regulations
  • Conduct job and safety briefing as required
  • Assist the lead on the planning of preventive and corrective maintenance activities to meet system availability for service requirements
  • Produce work blocks and Job hazard analysis pertained to planned work
  • Perform duties as instructed/directed by Lead, Track Manager, Track Inspector and the Civil and Track Engineer
  • Ensure conformance to technical specifications and compliance with operational specifications and tolerances (e.g. verifying dimensions and clearances of parts,…)
  • Ensure the execution of simple failure analysis and technical investigation
  • Ensure the maintenance tools and equipment are calibrated and in good condition
  • Assist the rectification of defects and critical failures
  • Assist the on-site spare parts management and the repair cycle from/to the site
  • Drive work vehicles when responding to emergencies and when required on duty
  • The role requires to work close proximity to the third rail frequently request Red Tag and LOTOs and Hot stick application  
  • The role requires flexibility and efficiency which require shift rotation, weekends and holidays work typical of major infrastructure projects, and operating transit systems
  • Perform additional job duties on unrelated track and third rail systems included but not limited to electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic controlled systems in accordance with training and qualifications

Required Education/Skills:

  • High School Diploma
  • Knowledge of track maintenance and safety standards and instructions

Desired Skills/ Knowledge:

1 year experience working in track maintenance inspection and repair

Bargaining Unit: IBEW Local 1186

The starting pay for this position is $30.55/hour
