What you’ll be doing

The Smart Charging Commissioning Engineer plays a pivotal role in implementing and maintaining Hitachi ZeroCarbon's advanced smart charging solutions. This is a new and central role within our well-respected delivery team. The position involves leading the commissioning, setup, and troubleshooting of smart charging software solutions - integrating them with various EV charging hardware. You’ll be the primary point of contact for our onsite deployments working with our delivery team and customer contacts to deliver the highest standards of service and operational excellence.

The role demands a proactive approach, providing expert guidance, support, and training to our customers both remotely and in person. In addition, you will collaborate with internal teams to make continuous improvements to the existing onboarding processes and technology, based on learnings from each customer deployment. A key aspect of the role is the ability to adapt to evolving customer requirements, technologies and industry standards; ensuring that Hitachi ZeroCarbon continues to build on its reputation for market leading delivery and service support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the commissioning, setup, and troubleshooting of smart charging software solutions, working with our programme delivery team, service desk and third line support teams

  • Integrate and onboard our software systems with various EV charging hardware

  • Provide post-commissioning support, customer training and updates as required

  • Engage effectively with clients primarily in the UK and internationally, offering clear advice, support and training where necessary

  • Work with HZC Product Team to identify new functionality to enhance, improve and streamline onboarding/platform support capabilities

  • Document and reporting of all operations activities undertaken, considering both the technical and regulatory aspects. This includes the drafting of “how to” and help guides for both internal and external stakeholders

  • Be available for travel to client sites within the UK and abroad, with occasional extended stays.

What you bring to the team

We’re looking for a team player, who is motivated by delivering great work and the Hitachi vision. The role will be a mixture of remote-hybrid work with minimum 1-2 days/week working at Hitachi Office (Broadgate Tower, 20 Primrose Street, EC2A 2EW)

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and background:

  • Proficient understanding of smart charging software technologies and solutions.

  • Knowledgeable about the integration of software systems with hardware.

  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, power distribution, and EV charging infrastructure, including:

  • BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations): Knowledge of the latest edition for safe electrical installations.

  • IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation: Understanding of best practices for installing EV charging stations.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.

  • Understanding of communication protocols such as OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) and TCP/IP networking

  • Foundational understanding of EV charging hardware, although primary focus is software.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, capable of communicating with a diverse range of client profiles.

  • Project management skills

  • UK Driving License is essential.

  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently.

  • Strong time management skills and meticulous attention to detail.

  • A safety-first and customer-centric mindset is a must.

  • Basic knowledge of any scripting language (i.e. Python) or use of Postman is beneficial
